• Offer build-your-own pathways using a mix of:

  • Micro-courses (10–20 min modules),

  • Pop-up live intensives,

  • Mentored projects,

  • Global site visits (e.g., smart factories, climate tech labs).

Partner with consulting firms or tech employers to offer 4–6 week sabbatical programs for high-potential leaders: structured learning + innovation fellowships + personal development.

I am cultivating a relationship with the MD Society of Professional Engineers (MDSPE) to connect with their >400 members promoting our NDNC offerings. I have joined their Education Committee and worked with their leadership to identify the top-priority skill-building items that apply across the board. I have boiled down this insight into three key areas:

1. Project Management for Engineers

2. Proposal Writing for Engineers

3. Business Skills for Engineers

Using the newly minted Project Management Certificate offering, I have pitched this program to MDSPE leadership and am continuing to cultivate content for the additional topics.

I believe this creates a good model to approach professional associations with skill-building programs focused specifically on the engineering workforce.

Building on the recent presentation by JHU's Michael Shields on the collapse of the Key Bridge, we may have the opportunity to leverage faculty and instructor speakers on in-demand topics related to LL-specific offerings. For example, we could host a 30-minute virtual or live presentation on the importance of structured project management and what can go wrong without the proper project planning discipline. This would help to create a 'call to action' for participants to register for the corresponding course or certificate offering.

We have had limited success in partnering with corporations to offer customized EP Cohort programs. Where we have formed these partnerships in the past, I believe there was a specific skill-building need within the organization that our EP Masters Programs could address with or without customization.

In speaking with dozens of corporate learning leaders, the majority have informed me that they offer tuition reimbursement for work-related coursework on a case-by-case basis. Annual reimbursement caps differ from company to company and may also include a 'clawback' provision. I have found that without a specific skill-based need, companies allow their employees to select coursework based on their individual needs and preferences. Many use a third-party administrator to manage this employee benefit, such as BrightHorizons/EdAssist.

Companies tend to leave course selection to the employee, but the DO value tuition discounts and other deferred payment options.

To assist WSE in achieving top-of-mind provider status, we may consider providing companies with a 'dedicated landing' page where employees can directly access our EP registration pages. We could market this to companies as a 'first step' in securing tuition discounts once XXX enrollments are in place. In addition, our agreement could include periodic 'info sessions' with employees and integration with their onboarding process.

So, here's my recommendation:

1. Can we make a generic landing page 'widget' that I can offer to companies to post on their intranet? Is this a lot of work? What's the downside?

2. Could we provide a sliding scale discount at specific enrollment thresholds?

I believe this could get us a 'foot in the door' and establish a relationship with company leadership for further partnership expansion.

EI currently does this with alumni post-session—question of capacity - time-intensive. Consider parent focus groups (lol EJ is already planning this out)

I am working with Raytheon to evaluate their ATEP curriculum for this purpose. This effort could be expanded to other organizations who have similar in-house development programs.

In addition, might we explore a similar offering for the completion of LL coursework? Just a thought.
