Reflection For Epic Theatre

After this assessment how confident do you feel about Brecht's Epic theatre and what are you interested in exploring practically in rehearsal?

I've learned a lot about Brecht and Epic Theatre from creating this presentation as well as from other presenters as I watched them. Since a lot of different groups demonstrated different techniques used in Epic Theatre, it helped me see what ways it can be presented. I'm looking forward to exploring different techniques deeper while rehearsing Epic Theatre in the future.

reflection for play

How successful do you feel your rehearsal process was?

Very successful. At first, each team individually wrote their scripts after we sort out the teams and their main topics. Then, we rehearsed individually in our groups and a few days before the summative, we started connecting the episodes and rehearsing all together as a class.

How did your final performance go?

I think the final performance went pretty well. I saw a lot of people adding lines and actions to make their performance better as it was a final performance. Overall, everyone stayed in character mostly and used a lot of the Epic Theatre techniques.

Do you feel you were successful in communicating your message to the audience?

I am confident that we successfully communicated our message since in every episode, there would be a line similar to "every teen has their own problems" aka the main message of our performance. We also included a final scene where there would be a big placard saying our message to the audience.

What would you do differently if you were to perform again?

Since there was only 2 weeks to do everything, we didn't know exactly what to do at first and rushed everything towards the end of our deadline. I think we could've communicated deeper meanings in some of the episodes, including mine, to improve the way the audience feels about the episode.

Looking at your journey over the last few weeks how do you feel you have developed as artists?

I have learned a lot more about how to implement these epic theatre techniques into a whole play instead of small scenes. This has also helped understand more about the process of making a play.

How has Brechts work influenced the way you create theatre?

For a lot of the techniques, i never thought of using them in a play and i thought that plays are just characters with a story remembering off a script. Brechts style of theatre showed me many ways of communicating a message especially using placards and making the audience not think emotionaly about the characters.
