This bill removes some rules about Medicare covering mental health services through telehealth. Right now, Medicare covers these services no matter where you are, but only if you’ve had an in-person visit before and keep having in-person visits regularly (starting January 1, 2025). This bill would get rid of the need for those in-person visits.

It requires access to community-based, appropriate accommodations. This act also determines that the individual has a say in whether they want to leave a residential facility to live in a community-based program. Autonomy is an incredibly important aspect of social work, utilizing humility in our practices.

This act also helps social workers and the general public understand that people living with disabilities are capable and deserving of participating in society and adding value to their communities.

They must be treated as if they were seeking treatment for any other medical condition. The 1996 act only covered large group health plans and the 2008 amendment included individual plans as well.
