Literacy is what? by Jackie Dellamano https://padlet.com/jackiesavonstore/ov497fzfsmv3 TCH 219 Post 1 en-us 2016-11-02 16:58:46 UTC 2017-05-17 10:55:30 UTC hello@padlet.com So, what is literacy and why didn't anyone tell me?  Seriously, growing up in the '80's was an AWESOME time; you should have been there.  Regardless of your absence, back in the day, we never thought about literacy in other forms outside of reading and writing.  It was what it was.  Today, however, in the year 2016, the meaning of literacy has grown immensely and continues to do so almost daily.  Literacy is music, television, social media, entertainment in all forms (theatre, film, pod casts, youtube, etc.)and in every way we utilize to communicate thoughts, feelings and ideas.  Even in reading and writing, times have changed.  We now have Kindles and Nooks, Microsoft Word and OneNote.  Prior to this class, I was still in the mind set that literacy meant books and writing.  Now I see the whole literary world as something else.  It's everywhere and touches everything we do to learn, communicate and grow as an individual.  It's never ending, constantly evolving, and has opened so many doors for so many, not only personally, but professionally. jackiesavonstore https://padlet.com/jackiesavonstore/ov497fzfsmv3/wish/134858938 2016-11-02 17:06:04 UTC https://padlet.com/jackiesavonstore/ov497fzfsmv3/wish/134858938 crleiner https://padlet.com/jackiesavonstore/ov497fzfsmv3/wish/137249460 I agree. It is crazy to believe how much has changed even since I was in grade school! The fact that we are replacing actual paper books with tablets and other types of reading devices is something that will always baffle me. Even with that being said, I think we are heading in the right direction. Our educational society is forever changing so hopefully it stays on the right track.

The things I learned in school are far different than what students are learning now. I believe however that things will always be changing and we cannot be surprised about it.
