The Exciting But Saddest Moments

In the 1980s, the rallying changed into Group B cars. These cars were turbocharged and could produce up to 500HP. That also meant that the crowds were excited to see these cars go as fast as possible. Unfortunately, these cars were so fast that the crowds got out of control. One rally car struck 3 people and lost their lives after being struck by a rally car. The other saddest moment was that Henri Toivonen lost his control of his Lancia Delta. The car fell off the cliff and burst into flames. Eventually, Toivonen passed away, along with his co-driver, Sergio Cresto. The most exciting moment came to a sad end afterwards.

In the 1990s, things changed the rallying world. The Group B Cars were replaced with Group A cars, which were safer to drive, but not as fun to watch. But in 1998, FIA replaced Group A with WRC, with cars including 300HP engines, and roll cages, that can protect the driver during crashes. French rally car driver Sebastien Loeb along the way, nearly shattered nearly every WRC record, including all-time wins. This has been a true success to him and his team.
