The Summary of the report

Cats killed many of animals in Australia. Government made rules for cats owns and cats to keep some birds. Firstly cats must have Microchip and stay at home on some case. Then cats owners put their cat’s name on list.

But some people think that cats killed birds are natural thing. Cats can walk outside. Experts say cat also can happy at patios. It’s good for every animals.

My view of this report

This report is comprehension, reporting not only the fact that cats eat birds, but also the perspectives of cats owners, normal people and experts. I see a lot of ways of thinking about things.

My feeling about this issue

I have a cat and she can only stay at home alone during the day when I go to work, and when I get off work I really want to take her out for a walk because I think cats also have the right to enjoy the sun and green space, but after watching this news, I also think that after taking her out, I should avoid letting her hurt some animals. But that doesn't mean cats should be restricted.

I was very happy to have almost 6 classmates in Nicola's class, Nicola are super nice and will always encourage us to speak even if we say a lot of words incorrectly in English and have a lot of grammar problems. I feel that there is a big difference between British education and Chinese education. In Nicola's classroom, students are encouraged to output by speaking, both in reading and listening, while in Chinese classrooms, students are more passive in listening.I am also very grateful that Nicola taught us a lot of learning methods before the official start of the class, which greatly improved the learning efficiency.

At the same time, I also realized my weakness in English, especially pronunciation, there are many words I can understand, but I can't say them, I feel that I should work words in my follow-up courses.

That's how I felt in my first week of class, and I'll keep working on it later.

This week we said Goodbye to Nicola, and welcomed to a new teacher, Jessica. It was a surprised that Jessica was not a native English speaker either. She understand how difficult it is for us to study English. she also encouraged us to speak English and listen carefully every time.

However, the second week of study is harder than the first week. The vocabulary of listening and reading are more complicated and the length of articles are longer. I know that the next week of course will be more and more difficult, and I will give it my all.

At the same time, I was happy to find my English skills have improved, especially when it comes to listening. I can understand more sentences.

In conclusion, I still have a lot of challenge in the follow-up study, but I believe I can overcome it.

The summary of the report

Amazon is a company sold technology products like smart TVs, laptops, etc. According to an ex-employee of amazon, every week 130,000 items had destroyed because it is expensive to keep unsold produce at Amazon for longer way than throw them away. The UK’s ITV News also proved this fact through go to the warehouse. Sam Chetan-Welsh from greenhouse that is an organization of protecting environment think the way of throw produce is bad for environment and the Government should take action to stop it.

My view of this report

In my opinion, Amazon’s way of doing business is too bad. Firstly. it is luxurious for amazon to thrown unsold products. The computer, headphone, hairdryers, books and even face masks are unreachable for many people in poor. Maybe they can donate unsold products to people in need. Secondly, it is also bad for environment because destroying a large number of technology products releases an amount of toxic gages. In conclusion, I think amazon should change the way of dealing with unsold produced.

My feeling about this issue

It was shocked when I heard this news because the government didn’t punish the amazon. we are in an era of global warming, destroying 130000 technology products every week caused many pollution to the environment. i think the plant need to be protected by us.

It is so difficult week! This week we learned how to write an essay, I know the structure of essay should be including three parts: introduction, main points, and a conclusion, and the introduction includes hook, background information, thesis statement, and outline. the paragraph should contain point, expand point, evidence and conclusion. it is really useful of my writing.

And we also mock tests of listening and reading, reading test is easier than listening test. when I was listening to the lecture, I couldn't keep up with the speed, and some words I cannot understand. now I am listening the lecture sentence by sentence. I hope it will help me improve my skill of listening English.

This is my forth week of my study, I will be prepaed for the presentation of next week, thank you !

For example, the speed of solving the case will faster because policemen are able to identify whether suspects say lies, so that find the real crimes. Maybe it will decrease the rate of crime.

This week I have been preparing the presentation.Actually I had the structure and details a few week ago.

But when I making the PPT, I find it is not easy. Fortunately, Jessica teaches us some tips of making it, Firstly we can use keywords, charts, pictures, and datas. Don't use longer sentences because audience should notice listening instead of reading. And then speak clearly, we ought to pay attention to the pronunciation of the words, each word has its own heavy syllables. Lastly practice, practice, practice, this will make your presentation more clear and fluent.

I think this experience helps me a lot, I used to put many words in my PPT and always nervous when I speaking. but when I used this tips and practiced a lot before presentation. I find I was confident and felt good when I talking. I know I also need to improve a lot on it. And I'll keep getting better at this.

"How does modern life lead to loneliness?"

Digital addiction can lead to loneliness. According to a research from peper in 2018, young people who used mobile phones the most have significantly higher levels of loneliness, depression and anxiety than those who used phones the least. (Peper, 2018) This is because digital addiction can reduce social connection. (Holt-Lunstad, et al., 2015; Swingle, 2016) For example, When college students are in class during breaks or after class, they are constantly scrolling, tapping, or looking at their phones instead of interacting with the classmate next to them. This result in young people hardly make friends in real life. In conclusion, digital addiction generates students not having very healthy social relationships and feeling lonely.

Time files, this week turned out to be the sixth week. We did some mock exams during the week, such as reading exam, listening exam, and writing. To be honest, I always worried about whether I could pass the final exam, I have been calculating the minimum score for each subject.

Throughout these mock exams, I found some tips to pass the exam. For example, when attending reading and listening exam, we can look at the problems first, and then read some articles or listen to lectures with a purpose. And I also discovered I am not familiar with some words and can’t understand them right now. I need to listen to English more.

As for writing and presentation, i will revise according to the feedback given by the teacher, and i believe that as long as I take these feedback ,i can pass the final exam.

Filipinos fight for divorce laws

The summary of the news

This report presents the case that Stella Sibonga and her husband want to discover but Philippines government doesn’t permit it. Sibonga is currently legal separated from her husband for many years and in a stable relationship, but neither can legally remarry or have sex with another person. And couples can legally separate only in cases of abuse, infidelity or at least six years of imprisonment for their partner. Supporters of social change in the Philippines are fighting for the right to divorce now.

My view of this news

In my opinion, The report convincingly uses a specific case to show the irrationality of Philippine law. And the structure of report very clean, Sibonga's story runs through it, interspersed with demands for separation, Philippine history, and possible changes to divorce law.

My feelings about the news

I believe this discover law is very unreasonable. Because it seriously damages people's freedom, as Sibonga said:’why some people who have experienced pain, abandonment and abuse will be punished by law?’

Why some Chinese workers are lying flat

The summary of the report

This report shows the phenomenon of “lying down”in China. t started during the COVID-19 pandemic when one guy commented on the website: “Lying flat is my wise movement.”and then many young Chinese agree that, they want to relax after working long time. Even after the end of the COVID-19 pandemic, the culture of lying down has not improved. And then while Chinese government said working long time was illegal, the the phenomenon of lying down has not improved.

My view of this report

I think the structure of this article very clear, examples are also persuasive. however, the reasons why young people lying flat is not deep enough. In my opinion, the story could have dug deeper for some specific reasons so the story would have looked more complete.

My feeling about this issue

I think there are deeper reasons for this phenomenon of “lying down”in China. First of all, this is not an era in which hard work can lead to success. Maybe 20 years ago, people could earn money as long as they were willing to work hard, but now even if they work for a long time, they can't earn much money because the economic environment is not good. Secondly young people pay more attention to human rights because they realize capitalists always keep the surplus value of the working people. In conclusion, I believe people can not earn much money and pay more attention to human rights also are reasons for phenomenon of “lying down”.

The two most memorable things for me this week are the presentation exam and the feedback of mock writing.

The first thing is when I was presenting the ppt, the computer suddenly went wrong, causing some contents not to be displayed, which affected the rhythm of my speech, and I also forgot some words. I was really devastated. This incident has also brought me some lessons. In the future, before giving a speech, I will carefully check whether the computer will make mistakes and be fully prepared. The second thing is that my score in the mock writing test is super low. I made a lot of elementary mistakes in writing, and the structure of the essay is not very clear, which makes me realize that I can't take writing lightly.

Overall, the thing I learned this week is, don't take your exams lightly and take your exams seriously, and I believe I will pass the final exam.
