         <description><![CDATA[<div>1.Republican Party-one of the two major political parties in the United States, the other being its historic rival, the Democratic Party.<br>2. Dred Scott Case-the U.S. Supreme Court on March 6, 1857, ruled (7–2) that a slave (Dred Scott) who had resided in a free state and territory (where slavery was prohibited) was not thereby entitled to his freedom; that African Americans were not and could never be citizens of the United States<br>3. Confederate States of America-A republic formed in February, 1861, and composed of the 11 Southern states that seceded from the United States in order to preserve slavery<br>4. Abraham Lincoln-The 16th president of the US who was the president of the Union in the Civil War and led them to a victory while also managing to free slaves<br>5, Civil War-A war between the South and North in the US between 1861-1865 over the issue of slavery. Virginia and below through Texas were the Confederacy. Maryland and above were the Union, although Washington D.C. in Virginia was the Unions capital.</div>]]></description>
