Droughts have taken their toll during the twentieth century and the early parts of the twenty-first century. Since 1900 droughts have caused the death of more than 11 million people around the world. Another 2 billion have been affected by droughts. One of the well known drought happened during World War I, 1914-1917. Farmers mowed and plowed millions of acres for farmlands. Then a series of rain dried and killed millions of crops. The droughts finally ended in the 1940s. In 2011 in Texas, thousands of square miles were burned by wildfires. Extreme drought conditions started in Texas in 2010.

I all, droughts are A prolonged period of abnormally low rainfall; an extended shortage of water; a period of dry weather and are caused by dry weather and extreme evaporation and can cause severe damage to people, their homes, jobs and lives. Places like Texas, California and Florida are very susceptible to droughts, like the drought that happened in WWI. Droughts are measured by their intensity. Some ways to be prepared is to always have an emergency kit with things like a flashlight, battery operated radio, batteries, food supplies, bottled water and a first aid kit. In a drought bottled water, and water in general is very important. So make sure you are prepared if you are in a drought susceptible place.
