After reading paragraphs 3 and 4, one realizes that Alfred Hitchcock is familiar with a lot of stories that include mysteries (at least for the players) about murder. Paragraph 6 supports such conclusions, as it mentions Mr. Hitchcock himself saying that he himself has been described as a maker of stories that are "thriller, dark mysteries, and chillers." He does mention, however, that he has never made a movie where he focuses on making a whodunit or puzzler movie. He lets the audience play God, meaning that the audience always knows which character has committed a crime or murder.

The first 5 paragraphs of this text begin with Alfred Hitchcock talking about suspense and how it is what stories always aim to get. He then says what he believes is the true creator of suspense: when you let the audience "play God." He then sets an example that helps explain what "playing God" is, which is when the audience knows which character was the one who did the crime but the actual characters do not. When Hitchcock says, “I do not believe that puzzling the audience is the essence of suspense," this example that he has given supports that, for it shows how there is suspense even when the audience knows what has happened.

Alfred Hitchcock explains the creation of suspense in a film by using the example of his movie, which is called Rope. He explains how he has let the audience see the "bestial crime" that John Dall has done, yet there is still suspense, and the audience becomes of wary of him and want the players to be careful and to uncover what the man has done. Hitchcock also describes how contrast helps with the creation of suspense. He mentions John Dall once more when he says that the man appears to be charming and a great guy, even though, as the audience knows, he is not that at all.

The word plausible is used in the text when Alfred says that "the necessary ingredient of the formula (he is speaking of the formula of suspense) is a series of plausible situations with people that are real." Since he describes situations as plausible, and people as real, I can infer that plausible has something to do with being real, or taken seriously and believable. One last detail that can help is the fact that Alfred Hitchcock wants the story to be suspenseful, and he is telling the reader how he does so. Obviously, he is going to want the scenario is his story to be reasonable, or plausible. That is how I used context clues to discover the meaning of plausible.

I figured out the meaning of the word insensibility by looking for context clues and using my knowledge of roots and affixes. First of all, let me tell you about the context clues. The phrase that Mr. Hitchcock uses that includes the word is "slugs him into insensibility." Obviously, getting slugged is a bad thing, and what happens after getting slugged is the negative word we want to find. Now, the roots and affixes come in, when we break insensibility down. in- means not, and sense, from sensus, means to feel. When we put those together, we get that insensibility means "to not feel."
