"Lucian Grigorescu" is a Primary & Secondary School in Medgidia, a town in Constanţa county, south-eastern Romania. Constanţa is the second largest and also the oldest living city in Romania, founded around 600 BC which lies on the Black Sea coast, with a beach length of 13 km and a port known as the fourth largest in Europe. Natural elements: sea water, sea air, sand, therapeutic mud extracted from Techirghiol Lake, the smaller islands met all along its inland, which are amazing habitat of fauna and flora, make this sea even more unique that it already is.
Medgidia has the privilege of being located just around 30 km away from the Black Sea. It lies in the center of an agricultural area of several tens of million hectares, with a fertile soil and provided with irrigation systems. Beside the agricultural activities (milk-processing, milling, bakery and vineyards), the main industry deals in cement and building materials and wood processing. Unfortunately, upgrading and privatization of companies led to heavy unemployment in recent years.
Therefore, we face many challenges as many parents work abroad and the school remains responsible with involving in and solving the students’ problems both from academic and emotional perspective.
"Lucian Grigorescu" School is one of the highly-regarded educational institutions in our town, appreciated by students, parents and local community for the level of education we provide and the remarkable school results through the years. It is formed by primary and secondary levels. Both share the same building and have two headmasters, 50 teachers and 754 students. Starting 2015 our school is assigned a kindergarten with 80 preschoolers and 4 kindergarten teachers, which is separately located in the same neighborhood.
At interdisciplinary level, there are different fields of study: Language and Communication, Maths and Science, Man and Society, Arts, Sports, Technology, Counselling.
In a harmonic combination of traditional and the alternate modern “Step by Step” system, we provide a wide educational methodology in order to shape up a well-balanced personality, able to live in an environmentally friendly Europe.
The school assets are quite good. Study of Physics, Chemistry and Biology is done with lab applications, so all theoretical knowledge is thorough and well organized. Thinking process is shaped as well as the logic of the student. Computer-assisted teaching is an interactive way to access information, simulating complex phenomena and processes. Via AeL, students can model, view and exemplify concepts, through movement and animated images. The sports hall is equipped to train future champions, for physical education classes as well as volleyball, basketball and handball matches. The school library has over 14 000 volumes and a small reading room. Students study foreign languages: English and French, or German and Turkish for students of Tatar and Turkish origin.
The school implemented programs for students with special needs: ADHD, other learning and behavioral problems. A 9-year-old student is schooled at home due to a physical disability, there are support teachers for three 10-year-old students – to guide and help them for the school curriculum, adapting the curriculum to their requirements.
12 socially deprived school students from primary level, get support from the church in accordance with an after-school program. Following this program, volunteer teachers help them do their homework every afternoon.
The school teachers volunteer to tutor students in their last school year, so that they could have good results for high-school admission.
All students showing special interest in various school subjects participate to school competitions organized by the Ministry of Education or School Inspectorates. Success on school level enables the students to participate in on regional or national levels. There are many students with awards on regional and even national levels.
Starting 2008 the school magazine “Childhood Labyrinth” is published in 15 editions. It represents a true mirror of our school activities, where parents, students, local representatives and teachers contribute actively.

We are a big school with pre-primary and primary students, fFrom 3 to 12 years old.
We are in Bétera, a town 15 km away from Valencia.
Pupils that are taking part of this project are from 5th grade, and they are three classrooms in total (60 students), as I teach English to all of them.
