         <description><![CDATA[<div>Primarily throughout the poem<em> Because I could not stop for Death</em>, Emily Dickinson personifies the ideas of death to be a character. Death is illustrated as a kind gentleman taking the narrator on a carriage ride to the afterlife as the speaker describes that, “Because I could not stop for death – / He kindly stopped for me” (Dickinson, lines 1-2). By giving death likable human qualities, this changes the tone to be more positive and light, despite the overall dark subject of the uncertainties of dying.</div><div><br></div>]]></description>

In specific, the speaker shows the carriage passing by a schoolhouse and uses the children to symbolize life as a whole. The poet states, “We passed by a school where children played, / Their lessons scarcely done” (Dickinson, lines 9-10). While this is not a universal symbol, in the context of the poem, it is an important moment to show youth. &nbsp;</div>]]></description>
