She also had very good social skills and great friends with the Native Americans. She would be helpful by talking to the Natives for the others in the Corps of Discovery and have them help us with where we are going and what the West looks like.

Plant
Cats ears were scattered all throughout the grass. They had a very bright yellow color to it but also were apart of some other flowers. Both these flowers looked both the same but different. The other flower around it had little white puffs. We are not sure exact if they are the same plant but we will take it as it is since they look so similar

Animal

A large but short animal was scavenging in the river this morning. He was very furry and had brown hair. It also had small ears and a seemed to have pointy teeth. We thought this animal as dangerous as we watched it get fish out of the stream and eat it. If this animal were to leave behind fish scraps we could use them in the ground to help crops grow easily.

We had met the Yankton Sioux Indians near the end of our journey. The Yanktons were ready to open a trade relationship with the United States. They were aware that the world and their place in it was changing. Yankton chiefs wanted to preserve their nation, and believed that the Corps of Discovery could help make that possible. The Yanktons helped us but we also helped them out as well.

After 4 hours of walking in the blazing heat we came upon Spirit Mound. This was located in South Dakota and several men complained of a great thirst. Heat and fatigue so affected everyone. The Sioux, Omaha, and Otoe tribes were found protecting this mound and whenever someone approached it then they would attack and shot arrows at these people. We had observed hundreds of bison, expansive prairie, and great flocks of birds flying above the mound.

I am going to choose St. Louis because that was the most important landmark during their expedition. I think it was the most important because that is where they started their expedition. Today, it is know as the “Gateway to the West”. This does make a lot of sense now knowing that because they were trying to find a way to the West. After Lewis and Clark have discovered the west more and more people started to expand westward which was very important for America to grow and get more populated.
