DURING RECITATION OF AL-QURAN:

• To have wudu.

• Sit in respectful manner.

• Begin with Ta'awudh (bLiw!) and

Tasmiyah (La_).

Pronounce every letter correctly and clearly.

Recite with melodious tone; calmly and not fast.

Don't interrupt other's reading.

AFTER RECITATION OF AL-QURAN:

• close the Qur'an when not reading.

· Place the Qur'an on a raised position.

· Do not place other books on top.

Handle the Qur' an with care & respect.

The angel, Jibril came disguised

as a man whose clothes were exceedingly

white and whose hair was exceedingly

black; no sign of journey were to be seen

on himand none of them knew him. He

walked up and sat down in front of the

Prophet SAW, with his knees touching

against the Prophet's SAW and placing the palms of his hand on his thighs. He then asked Prophet Muhammad SAW about Islam, Iman and Ihsan as well as the sign of apocalypse. Prophet SAw answered him in front of all of his companions.

Definition of Islam:

~ The outward practice of 5 Pillars of Islam:

• Testifying that there is no god but

Allah s.W.T and Muhammad is His Messenger (Shahadah).

•Establishing 5 daily prayers (Salah).

•Paying charity (Zakat).

•Fasting during Ramadan (Sawm).

•Performing the pilgrimage (Hajj) to the Ka'bah for those who are able.

DEFINITION OF IMAN (FAITH):

~ Outlines the six Pillars of Iman, which are central to a Muslim's belief system:

•Believing in Allah S.w.T.

•Believing in the Angels.

•Believing in the Books.

•Believing in His Messengers.

•Believing in the Last Day.

•Believing in the predestination.

DEFINITION OF IHSAN:

~'To worship Allah S.W.T as if you see

Him, and if you cannot see Him, then indeed He sees you.'

~ This means performing acts of worship and daily life with the utmost sincerity,excellence and deep awareness that Allah is constantly watching and observing

one's actions.

~ Ihsan represents the highest level of religious consciousness, where faith is so strong that it transforms how a person lives, worships and behaves, driven by a profound understanding of divine presence and accountability.

Surah al-Baqarah; 2: 163 - ‘And your God is One God; there is no god but Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.’

Surah al-Ikhlas; 112: 1-4 - affirming the purity of Oneness of Allah S.W.T, rejecting all forms of shirk with Him and explaining that there is nothing equal to Him.

We must believe in all 99 attributes of Allah S.W.T as described in the Qur’an and Sunnah.

2) BELIEF IN THE ANGELS - Angels are not human or Jinn; they are created from pure light. Unlike humans, angels do not disobey God and do exactly what they are commanded. Angels do not have genders, no bodily desires, no need for food sleep or rest and invisibles to humans.

•Jibril > brought revelation to the Prophets.

> delivered the Qur’an to Prophet Muhammad S.A.W.

•Mikail > in charge of rain, weather and sustenance.

•Israfil > will blow the trumpet to signal the Day of Judgement.

•Azrael > angel of death, takes the soul at the time of death.

•Malik > guardian of Hellfire.

•Mungkar & Nakir > question the soul in the grave.

•Raqib > record good deeds.

•Atid > record bad deeds.

•Ridhwan > guardian of Paradise.

3) BELIEF IN THE BOOKS - Given to Prophet Muhammad S.A.W and considered the final and the most comprehensive revelation that contained the most important source of guidance, shari’ah and spiritual knowledge in Islam.

•Surah al-Baqarah; 2: 136 - ‘Say (O Believers): ‘We believe in Allah, and what has been revealed to us (the Qur’an), and what was revealed to Prophet Ibrahim and Prophet Ismail and Prophet Ishak and Prophet Yaakub and the Tribes, and in what was given to Prophet Musa and Prophet Isa, and in what was given to the Prophets from their Lord; we make no distinction between any of them (as you - Jews and Christians - make distinctions); and we are all Muslims (submitting) to Allah alone.’

•Surah al-Baqarah; 2: 2 - This is the Book of the Qur’an, there is no doubt about it (about its coming from Allah and its perfection); it is a guidance for those who fear Allah S.W.T.

•Understand what is shown in the Qur’an as it is a source of references and guidances for every Muslims.

•We must put the teachings of Islam in our daily life.

- We must seek from guidances from Islamic scholars for better understanding.

- Consistency and unchangeable - al-Quran has been preserved by Allah S.W.T from the beginning until now from the distortion and manipulation of others.

EXAMPLE: SURAH AL-HADID

In surah al-Hadid; 57: 25, it highlight about:

•iron was sent down aligns with modern scientific findings that iron originated in space and was brought to Earth through meteorites.

•The verse also emphasises the numerous benefits iron provides to people. This includes its role in the development of the iron age, the creation of steel for infrastructures, and its essentials use in modern technologies like cars, internet and airplanes.

•The entire Surah, named after iron and positioned near the Qur’an’s midpoint emphasise Allah’s power and the material blessings He has sent for humankind.

# Believe in Allah, Angels and the Qur’an is our first tenet in Islam.

SURAH AL-KAHFI ~ surah Makiyyah

- Read surah al-Kahfi on Friday night & morning.

- Prophet Muhammad mentioned some surahs specifically including surah al-Kahfi. Whoever reads this surah, the Prophet SAW will remember us. Whoever memorizes the first and last 10 verses, insyaAllah, we will be safe from the slander of the Dajjal.

1. The story of the 7 young men of the Cave of the Companions

2. The story of Prophet Musa (AS) and Prophet Khadir (AS)

3. The story of Dhul-Qarnayn and Yakjuj Makjuj.

The story taken from Surah al-Kahfi tonight is Prophet Musa and Prophet Khadir; a journey in seeking knowledge.

Prophet Musa wanted to seek knowledge. Allah SWT rebuked Prophet Musa when he claimed to be the most learned after being asked by a child from Bāni Isrāel. Allah SWT said that there was a servant of Allah who was more learned than him who was at the meeting of the two seas. Prophet Musa and his student named Yusha' bin Nun sought Prophet Khadir to learn from him. Allah SWT said bring a fish, when they arrived at the meeting of the two seas, the fish would jump into the sea; that is where Prophet Musa would meet Prophet Khadir. However, his student forgot to inform Prophet Musa that the fish had jumped into the sea when they were resting. Allah SWT wanted to show His power when the fish jumped into the sea while still alive even though it was already dead.

They then turned back to their resting place; a place to meet Prophet Khadir AS. Allah SWT blessed Prophet Khadir with mercy and knowledge from Our own.

* The name Khadir means greenery.

* We are the ones who need to come to the teacher to gain knowledge, not wait for knowledge to come to us on its own (this is one of the manners of seeking knowledge).

Prophet Musa (AS) was humble when talking to Prophet Khadir. However, Prophet Khadir said that Prophet Musa would not be patient with him. Prophet Musa still persuaded Prophet Khadir and followed him. Prophet Khadir gave a prohibition and condition: ‘Do not ask about what I do until I explain it.’

Prophet Khadir and Prophet Musa boarded the boat and damaged the boat which made Prophet Musa wonder. Unintentionally, Prophet Musa had violated the conditions but Prophet Khadir forgave him because Prophet Musa said he forgot.

Prophet Khadir and Prophet Musa continued their journey until they met a boy who was said to have not yet reached puberty. Prophet Khadir immediately kill him which made Prophet Musa start to wonder about Prophet Khadir's actions because he had committed a great sin: taking the life of another without the permission of Allah SWT. Prophet Khadir said, 'Didn't I tell you that you would not be patient with me'. Once again Prophet Musa asked for a last chance to follow Prophet Khadir after violating his conditions.

Prophet Khadir and Prophet Musa arrived at a village and asked for food. However, the villagers did not want to help them. Then, they found a room with a hole in the wall and Prophet Khadir repaired it without asking for a reward. Prophet Musa was not satisfied and asked why he did not ask for a reward from the villagers even though he had repaired it. Prophet Khadir said once again, ‘ Didn’t I already tell you that you would not be patient with me?’

After that, Prophet Khadir explained about all his actions throughout the day to Prophet Musa.

The boat belonged to a poor man who worked at sea, and Allah SWT revealed to him. The boat would be taken by a king who wanted to seize beautiful boats. Therefore. Prophet Khadir damage the boat a little (by pulling 2 boards) so that the boat is not seized.

Meanwhile, Allah SWT gave a revelation about the boy who was killed because he would lead his parents towards evil / disbelief / chaos when he grew up. His parents were faithful servants of Allah.

Under the holey wall, there is a treasure belonging to 2 orphans that was kept by their pious father. And when they grow up, they will take it by the command of Allah SWT. If Prophet Khadir did not repair it, it is possible that someone else who did would take the treasure.

*We must be patient in all ways to gain knowledge from teachers.

1) T - trust in divine wisdom

*Knowledge belongs to Allah SWT. (Surah al-Kahfi; 18: 109)

2) R - resilience

*Prophet Moses (AS) tried hard to find the whereabouts of Prophet Khadir, this is perseverance in seeking knowledge. (Surah al-Kahfi; 18:60)

3) U-unexpected obstacle

*The challenges faced by Prophet Moses while seeking knowledge from Prophet Khadir:

~forgot about the fish jumping into the sea. (Surah al-Kahfi; 18:61) -lost track of the fish.

~forgot about the conditions and prohibitions of Prophet Khadir

* Every test and challenge faced has its own wisdom and sweetness...

4) S-seeking genuine goodness (Surah al-Kahfi; 18:66)

* The etiquette of seeking knowledge is important because it brings blessings to us in various aspects:

- happy to work

- excel in studies

5) T-Thoughtful guidance - to lead others to the right path.

T.R.U.S.T

* describe the obligation Muslims have to carry out the tasks committed to them.

* highlighting the idea that each person is responsible to Allah.

4) BELIEF IN RASUL - They are the Messengers of Allah that has been chosen among others which received revelation from Allah S.W.T to guide their people to the path of Allah.

Surah al-Baqarah; 2 :285 - The confession of the faith of Rasulullah SAW and the believers in Allah, His angels, His books, and His messengers, and their statements to listen and obey, and is a verse that contains a prayer for forgiveness to Allah SWT.

Surah al-Anbiyaa ;21 :25 - ‘ And We did not send any messenger before you, but We revealed to him that there is no god but Me, so worship Me. ’

Without the Messenger, we will not know many things about Islam more deeply. This life is just a test to us.

The Messengers is the living proof to mankind to not do something under the pretext of ignorance.

Application in Daily Life:

~ one must practices all the Sunnah of Prophet Muhammad S.A.W as he is the role model for every Muslims.

~ always be grateful towards Allah S.W.T so that we can strive for Allah’s pleasure; practices the du’a of Prophet Sulaiman AS to be grateful in every things we did. Whoever is not grateful to those around him is also not grateful to Allah.

~ Always make things easier for others.

~ always uphold the sense of equality not discriminate against others.

~ Always humble yourself in front of Allah S.W.T and others.

~ Always be patience.

5) BELIEF IN THE HEREAFTER - This world is just a temporary and doesn’t stay forever.

All people who have lived in this world will be resurrected to weigh the weight of each of their deeds; both good and bad.

All the Prophets have warned to their ummah that there will be a Day of Judgement.

When we believed in the existence of the Day of Judgement, hopefully we will be motivated to perform worship sincerely and fear to disobey His prohibitions. It is because we as Muslims believed that every good deeds we do in this world will be rewarded in the Hereafter.

6) BELIEF IN PREDESTINATIONS (QADA’ & QADAR)

Literal meaning:

Qada’ (Qada) - judged, ordained, executed perfectly.

Qadar (Qadara) - knew, predetermined, and planned perfectly.

Technical meaning:

Allah’s complete Knowledge that is written in the Safe Tablet,His Will exist before of all things and His creation of all things happen by His Command and Will.

We need to try with every might we have first in anything we do. After we put our effort, only then we trust (tawakkal) and pray to Allah S.W.T.

4 Component of Qada’ & Qadar:

- Knowledge

Surah al-Anfal; 8:75 | Allah has knowledge of everything; the minute as well as the general details of all that happens, whether it is of His own doing or of His creatures.

- Writing

Surah al-Hajj; 22: 70 | Allah has written all His knowledge of the fate of His creatures in The Preserved Tablet.

- Will

Surah al-Takwir; 81: 29 | Allah wills presence or absence of everything in the Heavens and in the Earth. Nothing can exist without His Will.

- Creation

Surah al-Mulk; 67:2 | We believe that Allah is the Creator of everything and anything, even Death, although it is the absence of life.

Benefits of believe in Qada’ & Qadar:

+Peace of mind

+Establish good manners

+Eliminate bad manners, such as envy and jealousy

+Teaches us to be modest, humble and content

According to Ibn Manzur, Ihsan indicates the significance of benevolence, the performance of good conduct and the act of mercy. Besides, The Oxford Dictionary defines benevolence as the quality of being well-meaning or kind.

* THE CONCEPT OF IHSAN IN AL-QUR’AN & HADITH

1) Al-Qur’an

> (Al-Razi) To perform obligatory deeds is a kind of justice but to go beyond the level of justice by performing voluntary deeds is Ihsan. Furthermore, to perform the deeds in the best fashion and with the utmost quality beyond the minimum necessary also implies Ihsan.

> (Al-Qurtubi) Adil is mandatory, and Ihsan is above and beyond mandatory.

> (Al-Ghazali) Being a just person is a necessity, while showing Ihsan is a vitue. The degree of Ihsan is above justice. If justice is like giving the and taking according to one’s share, Ihsan is giving more to others and taking less from his share. That’s why Allah loves the Muhsinin (those who apply Ihsan).

| Surah al-Isra’; 7: 23-2 | highlight that after Allah’s right, the greatest of all human rightsis the right of parents. This verse is not merely a moral recommendation but is the basis of the rights and powers of parents.

Respect & obedience

- Obedience to parents is obligatory only in what is permissible and not in what is forbidden or sinful.

- Prophet Muhammad SAW said ‘ There is no obedience to the created in the disobedience of the Creator.’

- The Qur’an also highlight one’s treatment towards the non-believer parents in Surah Luqman; 31: 15. If they are kafir and order him to become like them, it is not permissible to obey them. But, if they are still alive, they should be treated in recognised manners.

Well treatment

- Do not even say ‘Ugh’ to them as a sign of one’s displeasure, anger or contempt.

- Do not scold them.

- Address them with respectable words, that is, by talking to them softly with love, grace and concern for them.

- Pray for them.

2) Hadith on The Manifestation ( theoretical and practical understanding ) of Ihsan

>The hadith serves as an application to the concept of Ihsan. The meaning of ‘killing well’ is to strive to do the action well, without causing unnecessary pain or torment through it. However, ‘slaughtering well’ implies that people are to show kindness to the animal being slaughtered, not to push it to the ground cruelly or harshly, nor drag or from the one place to another.

>The hadith also includes recognising and acknowledging Allah’s favours upon Muslims, thanking Him and being grateful to Him. Allah S.W.T jas subjected some of His creation to Muslims and made their meat permissible when He could have made it forbidden if He had wished.

ISLAMIC ESCHATOLOGY

Introduction - The consequent existence or afterlife which closely related to the fifth article of the Islamic Faith, which is the belief in life after death.

The Qur’anic termfor eschatology is al-Akhirah or Ahwal al-Akhirah, (the afterlife situations). In addition, other related terms of al-Akhirah found in the Qur’an including al-Dar al-Akhirah (The Last House), al-Haqqah (The Reality) al-Ghashiyah (The Overwhelming Event) and etc.

The concept of eschatology in the Qur’an and Hadith:

>Surah al-Baqarah; 2: 107 - ‘Do you not know that to Allah belongs the dominion of the heavens and the earth and [that] you have not besides Allah any protector or any helper?’

>Surah al-Nisa’; 4: 69 - ‘And whoever obeys Allah and the Messenger- those will be with the ones upon whom Allah has bestowed favour of the Prophets, the steadfast affirmers of truth, the martyrs and the righteous. And excellent are those as companions.’

Hadith of Jibril in relation to the Eschatology and its sign - Jibril A.S taught the companions the fundamentals of Islam (Islam, Iman, Ihsan) together with the question of the Last Day and its sign that occupy the latter part of the hadith. The significance and centrality of eschatology in Islam and knowing the signs of al-Sa’ah is the evident from the hadith of Jibril.

# Therefore, a person who attains the level of Muhsin will make his strenuous effort to attain Allah’s pleasure as he has the feeling of being observed, and thus, leads to the attainment of Paradise in the Hereafter.
