At the end of Ms. Princess' presentation, I really liked her quote, "Listen Before You Speak". We're often told "think before you speak" which focuses solely on how we will express ourselves (it limits to an individuals' self). But this quote reminded me that communication should start with listening. We must first understand others (their thoughts, feelings, and perspectives) before responding. With that, it will create a more meaningful conversation and depth tht will also reduce misunderstanding and respect.

For me, what stood out to me was communication is not only useful in a casual conversation but it is also very useful for professional workplaces, especially in companies where since the company can only boost their name by the help of their employees working under that name. Communication can be applied if you have the sense of confidence and good listening skills that people can sense that aura of you of being trustworthy and build boundaries and connections either if its casual or in professional field. Just like for the marketing, if you don't know how to persuade a client in buying a product then your sales won't go up because you didn't properly explain or made an effort of selling the factors on how your product stood out more than the others.

I think my key takeaway was communication being more than just words. Being aware of the different aspects of it is important if you want to convey your message clearly, and knowing your field and audience is just as important. That, and knowing what should and shouldn't be said - not outright dishonesty, but knowing what information is necessary to be shared and what will only harm your prospects if shared carelessly. It involves a lot of forethought and evaluation.

After the talk, I’ve realized how important communication is not only between two people, but across an entire community. It made me wonder how the brands we see and use every day collaborate with their communicators to build identity, trust, and connection with their audience.

Communication is also not just about speaking well, it is about delivering information with meaning and purpose. Miss Cess even said that she wasn't that good in English, but she's now thriving in her job as a communicator. Lastly, an idea that stood out to me was “listening before speaking.” This is powerful because people often focus on expressing themselves rather than truly understanding others first. I also used to think that being an extrovert was a requirement to be a good communicator, but the talk changed that belief of mine. It's all about understanding your purpose and being intentional with the message you share.

Yesterday's learning session provided several insightful comments about communication mainly from the guest speakers. Their discussion showed me that the principles of communication is uniform all throughout the different lessons and subjects we learn from the curriculum. They emphasized that communication can be done by anyone but not all can use it effectively without learning it first. There wasn't that much that surprised me in regards to their discussions, however, I am astounded that communication can be used in so many fields and professions. It taught me to value and prioritize communication more since relationships and careers are always built off communication. If more than ever, this learning session taught me that communication is such an essential tool for society to connect, prosper, and function properly.

1. Most of what was discussed by the speakers only solidified or reaffirmed what I already knew about communication. What they talked about was aligned with previous discussions, both from DIASS and in some aspects, Oral Communication.

2. One concept from Ms. Milca's presentation that stood out to me was the idea that communicators are culture and reputation builders. I think that this best encapsulates what communication is and separates it from the field of linguistics.

3. To some extent, it was surprising just how versatile the field of communication can be and how it extends past what we are familiar with. My personal takeaway that was not directly discussed is how communication is prevalent in every field and that is what makes it so versatile. Communication seeps into the fields of psychology, sociology, and many more, though it also works the other way around in which these fields similarly influence communication.
