I’m still working my way through the posts, but Eman took me down a welcome rabbit hole of Carol Bacchi’s work and this approach is how I’d like to look at my policy… potentially.

It was really good to see so many considered, well-formulated ideas, it was almost on the verge of intimidating. It has certainly allowed me to rethink the breadth and depth of my future analysis. My peers' posts and responses have inspired me to read more and do better. (Obviously after the compulsory period of abject despair, haha!)

I would say different frameworks and lens of analysis added a layer of deeper understanding for my own approach. I especially liked the kind of questions others asked from their policies/policymakers which helped shape my own thinking in this direction.

Stage of policy

I think I have been a little hung up on the stages of policy and how policy is made so I have been revisiting some reading and following recommendations from the forum post. So it is hard to say what has given the biggest impression but I suppose I find myself really interested I. The political influence on educational policy and I guess I am really surprised just how much it influences curriculum design. I guess I shouldn’t be so surprised as the same political drivers will impact funding decisions but I was surprised how deeply it seems to impact education.

It’s really interesting to see how different everyone’s policies and methods of analysis are. Even when your policy is covers a different age group/sector, similarities can be drawn with frameworks that others have used to analyse. I am also interested to read further about Carol Bacchi.

The WPR framework as a framework. I am still reading about the approach, it helped me to look at a different way my policy area and starting problematise the governing activities.

Neoliberalism governmentality

The discussion around school education policies being formed to fulfil the public good when it stopped being about the public good since neoliberalism and neoconservative ideologies were introduced. The framework that Foucault has offered to examine the historical trajectory of certain ideological activities which combined with the Bacchi's approach to how States and policymakers problematize social phenomenon to introduce a policy that serves the interests of a group of people in power were vert interesting and helpful.
