What got cut off in the video
In the end we want to see Christ. The New Testament talks about the sign of Jonah. One of the most disobedient prophets gets compared to Christ! We will talk about anger. How to deal with it. Men are typically more angry and woman more sad. Jonah is an angry prophet. It is powerful to see how God heals that. This man is incredibly depressed. Tells God He wants to die. What is depression? It is anger turned inward. We want to find what to do when you are not satisfied with life!?

Point to Ponder: Where do you think we will find Christ in the book of Jonah?

I would like to hear a bit more about Jonah's confession here, both in v9 and v12. He's running away from God, but still clearly believes. He confesses that God has the power over all Creation, but thinks he can just run from his calling. I can relate, since I know that I believe, but so often try to squirm out of doing God's will - it's not like God will PERSONALLY step in to chastise me for that, right?

God is always with us (the Holy Spirit lives within us), so it is pointless to try and run from God. It is more likely that we tell ourselves, “God didn’t really mean what He said”. I am so thankful that God chose me, and that He keeps me, and I pray for strength to follow His will, rather than what I may think is best.

Oh Jonah…. Even when you try to run away from God you still do His work (witnessing). The awesome part is when the sailors IMMEDIATELY pray to the LORD after they see how Creation bows to God. What a transformation for all of them. I would have loved to hear the chatter from them about this miracle. I can only imagine the story they will share with the city once they paddle back to shore. You never know when God will drop a witnessing opportunity in your lap (or in this case, in your boat).

At times this world is frustrating I think I'm looking at it his way but should be praying for his guidance. So I give up wait with patience then something happens I wasn't expecting. WOW! It reminds me who is in control and has fore sight. Why Jonah fought so hard against the lord only he can answer, just relieved that he finally came around.

Pride is so big a part of our sinful nature that we don’t usually see it in ourselves. We do see it when we are proud of anything that goes against God’s Word, but it is not so easily seen when it just keeps God behind us, without actually doing something sinful. It is so comforting to know that God will keep coming after us again and again, and again, in many different ways, to get us to see the sin of our pride. God‘s love is immeasurable, and fortunately is greater than our sin.

Based on what I know of the book of Jonah, Christ is found in pointing out to Jonah and to Nineveh, with patience that is shown by God, in teaching the need for repentance from poor actions and that no one can measure up to God's perfect standards except for Jesus. Whether it the disobedience of a prophet with a poor attitude, or a citizenry of wickedness, God so loved the world that He gave His Son, the Christ, to atone for it all and save us all.

I see God pursuing me constantly, because without that pursuit I would have no faith. My sinful nature tries to convince me to steer away from tasks that it deems too difficult. God allows me to remember that with Him, all things are possible; that nothing will ever be so bad that God cannot bless me through it. One of my duties that I was very reluctant to do was to asking others to serve at church until God finally showed me I was working with Him to give others the opportunity to serve Him. On one occasion this was very clear to me when one member responded with, "Well, I don't really want to, so I guess that shows how much I really need to." The less you want to do something that God has asked you to do, the more you really need to do it.

My sinful nature tries to show a different way to navigate the path of life, but I deceive myself. The devil explains a different way, but the devil is a liar. God is Truth. He is the Way.

Keeping a thankful and penitent heart for how Jesus has made us right with God, and remembering that God wants all to be saved allows for an attitude that is more like John and less like Jonah, and continually praying for this attitude that reflects God's love for us.

It would seem the only thing worse than a half-hearted attempt would be no attempt at all, and that, sadly, I have done. I often find myself having the gall to think that how I present a message somehow has more might than God's power behind the message. I need to remember that it is not the messenger or the message, but the Creator and His plans that bring faith in Jesus through the Holy Spirit. In the moment, that allows someone let go of the pressure created by our own sinful mind, and instead, to express and show the joy behind the message of what Jesus has already done for us.

Okay, I have to take a minute because I'm still chuckling about the "angrily ever after". That made my day. Thank you.

There are many things that seem exceedingly evil in my life because the whole world is - well I wanted to say tainted with sin - but then I realized it's more than tainted - it's full of sin. The world is sinful. So there's a lot of things that make me angry; our leaders who don't lead, people who act inhuman and inhumane, situations that I can't make better or don't understand how to solve . . . the list goes on. And it's not righteous anger. It's usually vindictive anger, no better than Jonah. And that is because I am sinful as well, and that makes me ashamed. I deal with the anger and shame by repeatedly turning to the cross, and praying to Jesus, thanking Him for doing what I could not, can not, and will not do - being a perfect sacrifice for God's righteous anger due to my sin. Knowing what Jesus has done allows for the anger to be let go, because how can you be angry when you are reminded what an awesome gift that Jesus has given. I pray for the Holy Spirit to allow me to remember that precious gift, and to let go of the anger, and embrace the joy of salvation.

I pray and I remember God is always in control, so there must be a good reason why God allows them to go on. I cannot begin to fathom God's great plans. I remember how patient God has been with me; a bad patient with bad patience who doesn't always follow the good Word God has given.
