We were hosted by the Elementary School "Zespol Szkol w Staninie" from Stanin in Poland.

Project coordinator Karolina Čorak (English) and mathematics teacher Ivana Tuškan Mihalić took fifth and sixth grade students to Poland. Students David Cindrić, Lana Bosiljevac (5th grade) and Gabriel Marić, Lana Dobrinić (6th grade) spent five unforgettable and fun days in Poland. It was nice to listen to the students speak English and how they try to learn a few words from each member of this Erasmus + project.

In addition to our country, other countries from the Erasmus + project were guests: Romania, Lithuania, Turkey, and online Italy.

The host school from Stanin, their principal and project coordinator Katarzyna Koslacz made sure we felt at home.

Our adventure started in front of PŠ Belaj where we said goodbye to our parents and boarded the school van. Teacher Josip Novosel drove us in a school van to the airport in Zagreb. The flight from Zagreb to Warsaw took 5 hours due to the transfer in Amsterdam.

On the first day, the hosts prepared a wonderful event for us with their authentic homemade cakes. We toured the school, got acquainted with their way of working and organization, students from all countries solved maths problems in workshops prepared by the hosts. In the afternoon we visited Stanin and its surroundings.

On the second day, each country presented its country and school, and videos  under the theme "Maths in daily life". We were also greeted at the school by local education officials. In the afternoon we visited the town of Kazimiere Dolny, a small historic town located in eastern and central Poland on the right bank of the Vistula River, and in the past was one of the most important towns in the Pulawy County.

On the third day, the kind hosts took us on a full day trip to the capital city of Warsaw. In Warsaw we visited the Copernicus Museum and the old part of Warsaw. The students were delighted with the exhibits in the museum, they could try everything, play and learn in a fun way. Three hours passed in an instant. Warsaw is also the largest city in Poland with a beautiful old part of the city.

After sightseeing, we settled into the Airhotel where we slept and the next morning headed to the airport. We flew from Warsaw to Amsterdam where we transferred to Zagreb. Our principal Vesna Car was waiting for us in Zagreb and took us home in a school van. The students did a great job at all the airports, they were thrilled to travel by plane and can't wait for a new Erasmus project in the future.

The three M: Maths, Materials and Mathematicians

20-24 February 2022 The sixth international meeting took place at Gargždai Minijos Progymnasium, with the physical participation of students and teachers from Croatia, Poland and Romania. Teams from Italy and Turkey participated remotely. The meeting discussed PISA test results between the partner countries and compared mathematics teaching performance and curricula in partner countries.
During this meeting, the mathematics activities focused on the activity entitled "The three M: Maths, Materials and Mathematicians". In school, students carried out mathematical activities using smart devices on different teaching platforms and apps, participated in lessons where teachers integrated students from partner countries into mathematical activities and worked in international groups. They worked on a crossword puzzle to name famous mathematicians. 
Outside school, maths was also everywhere. The partners toured the Old Town of Klaipėda and counted the steps and the distance between the statues in the Old Town. While making pizza at a pizzeria, they remembered the PI constant, which describes the ratio between the length and diameter of a circle. In the Amber Museum in Palanga, they learnt about the physical and chemical properties of amber, compared the weight of amber with stone and plastic, and found out that amber does not drown in saltwater and that it is flammable. On the journey from Gargždai to Vilnius, they calculate the distance, time and average speed of the bus. On the way to Trakai, after visiting the castle, they compared the ages of Lithuanian and partner countries' castles and the times of their construction. Maths was also everywhere during the tour of Vilnius, comparing the population of the partner countries' capitals and the area covered by the cities. Visiting the Seimas of the Republic of Lithuania, they got acquainted with the activities of the Parliament, the legislative procedure, and the possibilities for Lithuanian citizens to participate in the legislative process. 

During this meeting, students participated in a variety of maths activities focused on games and entertainment.

The workshops were held in the Festivity Hall of our school where the students were divided into groups. In each group there were students from our partner countries.

All students took part in the activities and maths games.

Each partner country presented a maths game explaining the rules of the game to the other partners. All these games were posted on e-twinning platform and on youtube channel of the project.

All maths games were played by the partner countries.

These activities contributed to the development of linguistic skills in English, to improve communication between students, to social inclusion of some students.

This mobility offered the opportunity for each partner to promote a good practice on e-twinning platform and mentorship to other schools with less experience in using the e-twinning platform.

All these activities contributed to using that knowledge in their daily lives.

The diversity of all activities carried out in and outside our school, the ludic tone and the novelty elements aroused the students’ interest and made them work together in mixed international teams. The mobility in Romania was a special experience for students and teachers due to the fact that they had the opportunity to meet new people and places, played maths games, there were surprises and they practiced the English language.

The main goal of this mobility was to practice mathematical skills through games so that students understand that maths can be studied in a fun and practical way.

The activity “Enjoy Maths with Games and Fun” allowed students to play with maths, to deepen maths knowledge and to use them in their daily lives.
