Post 1 - The Mediterranean in 33 CE
Rome first became a strong and powerful ancient civilization because of the resources and the location. An great leader, Julius Caesar started to build Rome as a great city and empire, by focusing on military strength in order for Rome to conquer the other great civilizations such as the Ottoman Empire. Rome had been controlling the Mediterranean from 241 BC and then Carthage itself into 146 BC. Rome's victory in these wars made it a major marine power controlling Sicily and dominating the Western Mediterranean. Therefore, Rome conquered and destroyed Carthage in 146 B.C.E. and the Spanish Celts by 133 B.C.E., both of them in a rather treacherous and brutal state. Syriac, Coptic, Hebrew and Aramaic are the languages spoken in the Roman Empire. Cultural groups that live in this Mediterranean region in 33 CE are, Hebrews, Jews, Romans, Galileans, and Corinthians. Main regions of this time were Jerusalem, Rome, Galilei, Macedonia, Phrygia, and Corinth. The Romans constructed bridges across the rive timber, aqueducts to supple Rome with water and sewers that help to drain the forum and help keep the city healthy. Some main regions in Rome included, Emilia Lazio Marche Tuscany Umbria and Abruzzo. Some main city's in Rome include, Bologna, Rome and Naples. Goods were transported through either horse or cart, if small they would be carried in a sack and the wearer would walk.

Saul of Tarsus was a persecutor of Christians. On the road to Damascus Jesus spoke to him and asked him to stop persecuting Christians. Saul became Paul and converted to Christianity and spread Jesus' message to gentiles (non-Jews). Significantly Paul spread the Christian religion by going on missionary journeys and preaching to the non-Jews as he went along on his journey. Without Paul, Christianity would not be as widespread as it is today.

One of the letters (epistles) Paul wrote to the Galatians was debating the status of Jewish law and what was required for the Gentiles to be Christian. When the Galatians communities became Christian there was no requirement for circumcision for the Gentiles. Sometime after the conversion a group of Jewish Christians went to Galatia and started to preach, saying that so one could be saved one needed to follow the requirements of the Jewish law, specifically to be circumcised. Paul’s reaction was immediate. He wrote, "I am astonished that you are so quickly deserting the one who called you in the grace of Christ and are turning to a different gospel. Paul believed that the Jewish law was not important and that to become a Christian gentiles need only faith in Jesus and live a Christian life.

Paul the apostle wrote much of the New Testament, this included letters to the Galatians, Ephesians and the Philippians. These epistles contains a wealth of wisdom for living as a Christ-follower inside a fallen world. By reading through these letters Christians are given guidance on how to live their life well. For example in Philippians 3:12-14 it is written... "Forgetting what lies behind and straining forward to what lies ahead is the only thing i do and I beloved, although I consider that I have made it my own. Overall the only thing that matters most is, I press on toward the goal for the prize of the heavenly call of God in Christ Jesus." The main message in this text is to keep trying and not give up. In our world today this reflects on how women are treated everyday and the need to persevere. A recent example is the #metoo campaign that tells people that women shouldn't be exploited.
