Although it looked like Japan succeed in their efforts to take out the Pacific fleet, killing 2,400 and damaging 8 battle ships, the Japanese missed oil tanks, ammunition sites and repair facilities which were all key to the Pacific fleet and made it easier to build back this fleet. Furthermore, I believe that Pearl Harbor was a major turning point in the war because, it un silenced the United States in World War 2. Japan attacking Pearl Harbor was a turning point for World War 2 because it prompted the US to join the allies and declare war on Japan. The US helped the allies win the war and couldn't be stopped. Although the Japaneses thought their attack was successful and that they could now control the pacific, they were wrong and it didn't take much time for the US navy to be repaired, this lead to the US winning the battle of Midway and showing the allies were not going to lose. The US also ultimately took Japan out of the war by bombing their two major cities to a point where Japan had to surrender. As tension between the United States and Japan grew, this left the idea of war to be inevitable. Pearl Harbor, having been the main base for the Pacific Fleet with little ways of defending, prompted Japan to attack the Fleet. By doing so, this brought the United States into WWII, where they would join the Allied Powers. Despite the events that took place at Pearl Harbor, the United States devised a plan in which they would bomb two of Japans major cities. These are knowing as the bombing of Hiroshima and Nagasaki. This caused for Japan to surrender in WWII, leaving the Allies with major winnings in their position. ]]> 2021-05-25 13:32:11 UTC https://padlet.com/adonahue/ot8z6u85y6a6bm7f/wish/1557554354 23rcanale https://padlet.com/adonahue/ot8z6u85y6a6bm7f/wish/1557574397 I believe that the War of Britain was very important to the war initially as they could be seen as one of the strongest allied powers.  However; did not provide a huge turning point as Pearl Harbor did.  Pearl Harbor can be seen as n event that could have gone in 2 very different directions.  If Japan had been successful in their attempt and the air craft carriers were there, the war would have gone very differently as the US would be more crippled and might have entered the war even alter which would have been too late for them to make a difference.  This wasn't the case though, as the the chance that the carriers weren't there it caused the US to be 100% on the idea of entering he war and it also left them with a  still strong military.  The main Point of this is that it would have gone very different if Japan hadn't decided to bomb pearl harbor in the first place as the US might have never entered the war.

When Japanese bombers appeared in the air over Pearl Harbor it took the U.S. military by surprise, causing devastating damages: the bombs hit eight U.S. battleships, sinking four and damaging four others, destroyed/ damaged more than 200 aircrafts, and killed some 2,400 Americans. The event dramatically altered the course of World War II. The U.S. hand was forced, they had no other option but to join in on the events in WW2. The attack on Pearl Harbor, for the majority, was successful but Japan failed to hit all of the major parts of the Pacific Fleet; this eventually led to the U.S forces victory in the Battle of Midway, turning the tide of the war in the Pacific. When the U.S. got involved in the war, they immediately helped out their other allies, one of them being Britain. Without their support Britain would not have been able to achieve victory in Normandy on D-Day, and liberate their other ally: France, removing Germans from the northwestern part of France. These already present tensions grew when Yamamoto, a Japanese naval officer, set up an attack on the Pearl Harbor, the American Pacific naval base. The base was not highly secured due to the US's hesitance to enter the war. The attack was responsible for the death of about 2,400 soldiers, and is what cause the US to fully enter the war. This then led to the Midway Battle, and the Bombing of Hiroshima, which marked the end of WWII. It began on June 6, 1944, when roughly 160,000 American, British and Canadian forces landed along the coast of France’s Normandy region. The invasion was one of the greatest military assaults in history and required extensive planning by military generals. The Allies conducted a deception campaign designed to mislead the Germans about the intended invasion target. At the end of August in 1944, all of northern France had been liberated, and Germans were defeated the following spring. The Normandy landings were considered the beginning of the end of war in Europe.

Less than a year after the invasion, the Allies formally accepted Nazi Germany's surrender.
