14. Give 3 reasons why this book should be taught to a whole class. Support each reason with ample evidence from the book.

One reason is that this is a story about a a boy in the middle of a war of WWII. This will be important to teach to the whole class because this captures the experiences people in the middle of a war felt and went through. This will teach how normal people and families lived with bombings and how they managed to survive.

Second reason is Kids and what they sacrificed. Ken the main character has been one of the kids that were selected to be shipped out of danger. Ken is the only one able to be shipped because he is the only one in the right age requirement. This means that Ken will have to Leave his siblings, Mother, and his Father. This is important because the students must know what kids like them had to sacrifice to survive in the WWII.

Third reason is what Ken was thinking of what to do. These are important to teach people because People must know what people were think of doing to survive in the WWII. Maby having to leave their family's, staying and having the risk to be injured or worse.

13.This story helps me understand the problem of…better because…..

This chapter helps me understand the dangers in the story because it goes more into what is happening and events that happen on a daily bases. In the beginning of the chapter our main character feels dizzy hearing the news reporters giving numbers of plain fighters, bombers, and the sky being lit in the dark by bombs fired from Germany. This gives me a better understanding because the main character is getting dizzy just from the numbers of planes fighters and other threat full things so this must be scary to make the main character feel any kind of emotion just from watching and listening to a news report. Buses, homes, hospitals destroyed by a attack. Giving me information of how people living in London are losing transportation, not having the help they need because hospitals were destroyed, and some left homeless from their homes being wrecked. Our main character finds shrapnel from a bomb, he picks it up because it is not dangerous anymore, but if he were in that same location when that exact bomb was targeted it would have killed him and others near where the bomb landed. These are just some random words to complete the 200 word limit

18. Describe a conflict and identify it as either internal or external. Tell why you chose that label.

I believe that the conflict of the story is both internal and external. In the novel our main character Ken is being shipped to another place because where he has been living is to dangerous bomber, planes, and more have been dropping bombs destroying many buildings such as hospitals, homes, and transportation. So the conflict is half external because Ken' s antagonist is Germany because they are the country that Great Britain declared war on. And this event made Ken' s life a nightmare, having to deal with bombs on a daily bases and having to fear of him being a victim of a attack form Germany. The other half is internal because Ken the main character is the only one having the right age requirement to be shipped off to safety. This meaning that Ken will have to abandon his home and family. This makes this internal because Ken is gonna have to be strong and brave to leave his family behind. Steve has faith that his family will survive and will meet up after the war is over. But there is another option that could happen but Ken tries not to thin of it. What Ken tries not to think about is his family not making it after the war.

Ken is describes as being brave, caring, helpful, curious, not . Ken is described as being brave because he was one of the children picked to be shipped off to safety. Ken scared to leave his home family his father encouraged to go and to think of it as an adventure. Ken very compelled to go to an adventure he is more confident to go and has hope that he will see his family again after the war is over. Ken is curious because when he sees a bomb he picks up a piece of the rocket and observes it. Ken is also helpful because he helped a new friend to find his brother that they believe went out from the orphanage so Ken and his new friend went to find him. He might've gone because his friend said that he wanted to prove to his mother that he was more than responsible for taking care of his brother, he can relate because he also would like to get his mothers respect and appreciation.

6. Write about something that intrigues, impresses, amuses, shocks, puzzles, disturbs, repulses or aggravates you.

One thing that aggravates me is the timing. i have read more than eighty pages and its already starting to start about ken getting a boat and the whole reason i liked the book. What puzzles me is why only kids in between the ages of five and fifteen can go and no one under that age, is it at the age 5 where they can handle not crying and not needing as much responsibility? And what puzzles me too is how are the chosen kids picked? Are they just picked randomly or are they picked based on their life style or something more complicated and more reasonable. What amuses me is that in the story at times they use the phrase "oof" was Roblox out since WWII if not then why did he say phrase "oof" I was very shocked that some of Kens younger friends were sadly killed. I was so impressed of how the people on the lifeboat figured out how to navigate and which direction to go.

Ken our main character is one of the lucky ones that have been chosen to be sent to Canada and away from the dangers of Germany attacks on London. Ken soon decides to leave because his father said it would be an adventure and he loves adventures. Ken gets on a train that heads to an orphanage and where he'll be at for a while until the ship arrives. Ken is at the orphanage and is greeted by father O' Sullivan and he stays in a orphanage. Soon he meets these other kids that are in the same situation and they quickly become friends. Ken and his new friends play hide and seek but one of the younger kids went missing an they saw that the gate was open and they believed that they went out, but the brother did not want to get any help but felt that it was his responsibility for him to get him back because he was in charge if him from his mother. They find them with one of the woman from the orphanage. They soon board the ship where they will be shipped off to canada. They had to be checked if any of them had a sickness and if they did they would be sent back off to where they came from. One child was happy to be sent back to his parents. Ken and his firneds all were ok and boarded the ship. They had foods they had never heard of or ate frome and played happily. But His friends brothers got the flu and were sent to sick bay. But tragedy struck when their ship was torpedoed and was sinking they soon did their procedures of abondabandoning the ship and getting on the lifeboats. Ken missed his lifeboat and was luckily to find another lifeboat, life boat 12.

Which 4 events do you think is the most important and give your reasons why?

-First event that I believe is important to the story is the moment Ken is picked to go to the ship that will travel all the way from London to Canada, also this is the point where he leaves his home and the danger and the moment that Ken starts his journey to luxuriousness and to danger.

-Second event that i believe is important is the moment Ken recieves his coat from his mother which costed alot but she did bc it would be cold in Canada. Ken used his Coat for warmth and to remind him of his mother. Throug out every safe and dangerous event occurred he always went and got this coat if left behind. For example while they were being sunked he he was at his boat but he went back either becuase he cares that much for what her mother got him.

-Third event that i believe was an important event to story was when Ken meeting his new companions/friends. I believe this is important becuase they would keep him in a good mood and make them and himself occupied of the dangers they left behind and from their homesick and would play together. And also he having his friend from his town go as well to the ship. I believe this is an important part of the book because later on a event happens that must've traumatized and effected him very hhorrible.

-Fourth event that i believe that is important to the story is the part when Ken is in the lifeboat for days. I believe this important because ththroughout the time they are in the boat they have to eat very little which makes them very hungry and wanting more but noting getting until the next day. Them having to constantly find ways to keep themselves occupied of the boredom and from them being hungry. And Ken and many others experienceing painful swelling on their feet and having to deal with cold. And sometimes Ken beleiving that him and the others wont make it and will die in the lifeboat and believing that no one will come for their rescue. And Ken for the first time seeing a guy going crazy and taking his own life in front of him. In conclusion i believe this is an important event during the time they are in the lifeboat because Ken suffers a lot while they are in the lifeboat both phisacly and mentally.

What kinds of emotions did Ken experienced throughtout the story..

Ken in the bebeginning feels happy and scared at the same time becuase hes with his family but in a middle of a war with constant eexplosions and destruction around him. Later Ken feels happy, lucky and sad because he received a letter that was being given to 90 kids and he was one of those was chosen to go to a ship that would go to Canada, but was also sad because he would have to leave his family. When Ken goes to the trian and boards he feels happy to start off on a real journey but feels sad and scared, sad to leave his family behind and scared of the thought about not seeing his family after the wars over. But Ken finds a friend that he knows and is more comforted and is more confident in this journey. During the time Ken was at the orphanage he must've felt disgusted and unsatisfied. Disgusted because the ororphanage they were staying at were swormed with rats and dirty. And unsatisfied because their sleeping beds were just a pillow and a blanket and did not make a good sleeping bed. But Ken soon made new friends which must've made him happey to see people that he will be able to talk to and play with. As Ken is in the ship he eats like never before and must've felt joy, amazed of the diferent varietys of food, and unlucky becuase he has never ate like this and had to work for everything he ate. They were granted new spotless toys and felt unlucky again because he had to work for every toy but were not always new. As they were on the ship they practiced emergency procedure in case they were attacked which made Ken fearful of if it could happen. Ken felt fear because the ship he was on was torpedoed and the ship was sinking. Ken almost at his lifeboat he went back for his treasure belonging but after he got his belonging he went back to see that his assigned lifeboat was not in sight. Scared Ken yelled for assistance and was relieved to see another lifeboat with extra space. Ken feeling scared for his frfreinds he asked if they were ok and their response that they are ok. Ken just trusting their words. Ken now in a lifeboat with very littke supllies he comforted himself of journeys always having scary situations. Ken feeling worried of how much food they will have to eat per day to last them a week which worries him a lot. Ken scared that they may not make it. Ken and others see a Massive ship and hope rises for all of them but they fail to get its attention and lose hope once again. Ken feels worried for one of his friends which becomes crazy for a while from thirst. Ken now trul feels hopelessness and fearful of that he knows that they will not make it to land before food runs out and that no one will come for their rescue. Ken then feels shocked, scared, and sadness because a man on the lifeboat goes insane and jumps off the lifeboat, the man desperately trying to swim they men on board see that he has become crazy and leave him. Ken finaly eating a peach feeling joy and sweetness and ho precious the flavor is. Ken and others see somthing in the sky and see a plane and once again they have hope and try to get its attention and successfully do and send supplies and telling them that they will come back. They celebrate and Ken happy that he will live and see his family again. They come upon them on a ship where they rescued. Ken so happy to get nurished an to see his freinds being taken care of. As they get To land Ken relieved to not see no more ocean. Ken feeling lucky as the others do that they were the only ones to survive, and being shocked and sad to find out that his best friend and his other friends did not make it.
