         <description><![CDATA[<p><br></p><p>Elements of a school focused on engagement - a future view</p><ul><li><p>There is a school wide definition of student engagement.</p></li><li><p>There is a visible and enthusiastic vision/mission to engage students that is verbalized by the principal and school leaders regularly.</p></li><li><p>Faculty and staff are engaged in the work of engaging students.</p></li><li><p>School leadership and faculty understand how students react to schoolwork, including the differences between engagement, compliance, and "edutainment".</p></li><li><p>School leadership and faculty understand the difference between a learning platform and a teaching platform.</p></li><li><p>Faculty clearly understand what students are expected to learn.</p></li><li><p>Faculty and staff have ongoing conversations and PD about how students learn, what they learn, and how they engage with schoolwork that includes sharing of classroom successes and challenges.</p></li><li><p>Teachers have a deliberate process to check for and assess student engagement (effort and results).</p></li><li><p>The principal and school leaders create opportunities to work on engagement on a regular basis. Time and resources are allocated for this to happen. A formal team may be established to do this.</p></li><li><p>Teachers <strong><em>have and use </em></strong>the necessary tools and a common language to assess, modify, and redesign existing schoolwork to address engagement and learning.</p></li></ul><p><br></p>]]></description>
