         <title>Dance Marathons</title>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>- Dance Marathons were a way for people to forget about their worries and the downfall of America.&nbsp;<br>- Couples would dance until they either dropped or fell asleep. The winning couple would earn a prize.&nbsp;<br>The prizes were sometimes; food, shelter and cash prizes. Cash prizes were the favourite prize because you could buy things you wished for. </div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>- As people became unemployed they were evicted from their homes.&nbsp;<br>- They were constructed of cardboard, tar paper, tin, glass and lumber.&nbsp;<br>- Some held thousands of people. Depending on the size of the area, that would effect the size of the Hooverville.&nbsp;<br>- Where ever there was a Hooverville, there was a river. They tried to construct the Hooverville's near rivers for the water source. </div>]]></description>

         <title>The Effect on Europe</title>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>-&nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; Europe was still suffering the reparations of WW1, especially Germany</div><div>-&nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; Germany, during the Wall St Crash, was paying off the harsh reparations of the Treaty of Versailles and suffered greatly from the Crash</div><div>-&nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; Europe didn’t suffer anywhere near as much as America who prospered throughout the time after WW1 leading up to the Crash and lost the vast majority of their stocks.</div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>-&nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; Fall of the stock markets globally (mainly in USA though)</div><div>-&nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; Official date Tue October 29, 1929 (Black Tuesday)</div><div>-&nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; Stocks wouldn’t be back where they were prior to the Crash until 1954</div><div>-&nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; Caused by the indulgence of the Roaring 20’s – people using the stock market as a way to gain money</div><div>-&nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; Resulted in the loss of work for 12 million people and rates going up every day</div><div>-&nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; Resulted in suicide on a record annual high</div><div>-&nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; Creation of Hoovervilles by those out of work</div><div>-&nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; The stocks reached their record low in winter of 1932.&nbsp;</div><div>-&nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; Resulted in the eventual downfall of President Herbert Hoover – who did next to nothing to help those affected by the Crash and didn’t change his methods that initially caused the crash.</div><div>-&nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; Thousands of banks went bankrupt and out of business</div><div>-&nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; Industries suffered as well as consumers were out of money and couldn’t afford to purchase things.&nbsp;</div><div>-&nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; Affected Europe</div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>- 32nd President of America<br>-&nbsp;Hoover was a Republican and supported the belief that people should help themselves.</div><div>-&nbsp;This led to him doing practically nothing to support his citizens in their time of need – and also nothing to stop the rapid downfall of the Dow Jones Industrial&nbsp;</div><div>-&nbsp;As the Crash continued and the economic state of the US went downhill, so did Hoover’s unpopularity</div><div>-&nbsp;Was voted out of parliament and replaced by Roosevelt, who began to repair the damage Hoover caused.</div>]]></description>
