As American politics began only white men who owned property could vote. As years went by more groups got the ability to vote. This allowed women, people of color, and 18+ year olds to vote. The government also prohibited poll taxes and literacy tests which increased voter turnout. America also has a two party system where the two main parties are Republicans and Democrats. These all helped shape the democratic politics we have today.
