The exposition of this book is about this Indian boy names Junior. The book starts off by telling about Juniors life and what it's like to be an Indian at the place he lives (The Reservation). One of the early conflicts in the book is that Junior wants to make a better life for himself and the only way he can do that is if he leaves the reservation and if he does that he feels that he will be disrespecting his people because he will be going to a white school. The rising action of the book is that when he does decide to go to the white school he struggles to fit in and figure out how to make friends at his new school and he also struggles with trying to keep his best friend Rowdy from his old school. The climax of the book is when Junior experiences three tragic deaths in rapid succession, his grandmother, family friend, Eugene, and his sister Mary all die. For Junior, Mary’s death is the most traumatic. The falling action is when Junior’s family mourns the recent deaths of loved ones and Junior completes a successful first year at Reardan, the Spokane community seems to realize it has treated Junior unfairly, and Junior finds unsuspected support among the new friends he has made at Reardan. The resolution is when he makes everything go right at school by becoming the most popular person. Everything in the end goes his way because through hard work and effort he sets things right.

Theme -- Poverty

I feel as if Poverty is the most important theme in the story because the author shows that poverty isn't always a bad thing.
I feel this is the theme of the story because I feel like it taught Junior the most in his life. It taught Junior how to control his money and to life with what you got. It taught Junior that some people will surprise you if you just let them. It taught him that just because you don't have money doesn't mean that you can't have friends and people won't like. I feel as if there are many themes in this story, but I feel as if poverty is the most important life lesson for Junior so that makes it the most important.
