Give a review of Ratliff’s book. What did you think?

This book put music into a new perspective for me. Before, I did not really take in as to how much it takes to put together music due to the fact that it has become a norm for me to listen to on daily basis. We as listeners, take the smallest things into consideration. For example, in week 7 we learned about how transmission in music is giving more than you need. If there is an extreme form of emotion in music that transcends specific moods, it is called a state of transmission. When they were referring to transmission for the assignment, I assumed that the book was referring to a car but in all actuality it was music.

What were your favorite aspects?

My favorite aspect is the concept of a single is taking a pedal point that lies beneath a piece of music but putting on the top instead. With playing a single note, anytime it is played, it is very unique or different due to the fact that no one else will play that single the same.

Concept of endless inventory. Cognitive shareholder is simply by loving or liking that piece a lot. Then also by singing the piece, dancing to the piece or performing to the piece by using an instrument. Then a different kind of shareholder is a proprietary kind which is when an individual owns all of the recordings by that performer.
