The first slab was 12 inches long. I then made two more which I made 10 inches long in order to keep an inch of space on each end. The last 3 that I made were 8 inches in order to fit in between the other two. I made a sphere shape followed by a separate banana shaped piece. I connect the banana at what became the jaw and pushed it until it formed a skull shape. I pushed in eye holes with the thumbs after marking the middle of the face with a knife tool. I pushed down from the eyes to form cheek bones and pinched in between the eyes to form the eyebrow ridge. After shaping out the face I started on making noses. It as during this and while planning out in my head the placement of the other features that I realized that what I wanted for my final piece wasn’t going to be done as effectively with how I was doing it. This time however, I decided to drag the ends of the eyes down the face to give the image of crying but more so imprinted in the face. I then attached the nose that I had made and formed prints in the forehead as creases to match the drooping eyes.  I then started to shape lips and kept them separated in order to make the cut open mouth look. I printed out a sheet of paper that had puzzle pieces on it and traced the pieces in a transfer marker. After finishing that, I wet my base and laid the paper done and pushed out any air bubbles using a wooden rib. Prior to this I also carved out the inside of the face. I slipped and scored it onto the base and cut out a hole in the top of the head for air to get through. After the head was attached and I could see which puzzle pieces would be seen around the head, I moved forward to start the tracing process of the pieces on the base. After those were traced I used the same puzzle piece paper in order to make two individual puzzle pieces. I traced one of the again did the same transferring process onto a slab. Using the same paper to clay transfer method, I printed out different sized butterflies and ended up using the smallest one. After transferring the butterfly onto the clay, I cut it out and repeated it again to have two butterflies. Once they were cut out, I feathered the edges of the wings in order to make a more realistic look. I then folded the wings in order to make a sitting shape before slipping and scoring them onto both of the puzzle pieces. I also used small balls of clay in order to hold up the wings while they dried. I’ve had a lot of moments in my life that have held a lasting impact on my life. But overall something that has been a burden in my life for as long as I can remember is my anxiety. Thinking back on childhood memories, it's hard not to only be able to picture the anxiety I was feeling during those specific moments. I haven’t gone a day of my life without feeling anxious. I decided it would be best to tackle that feeling by sculpting it. The face that I sculpted was the base of emotion, where it all comes from. Anxiety is all in your head and I wanted to show how that feels, portrayed across a face. The eyes are facing down and running down the face. To me this represented just the basic sorrow you feel, or the instinctual cry. The eyes also have no real eyeball and are empty in order  to embody the inability to see through your thoughts and see clearly. The mouth of the face is open and melting down like the eyes. By making the mouth poor out to nothing I felt as though it showed the feeling of your words turning to nothing, as though nothing you say could change the way your mind processes situations. The background is a puzzle, and to me, the brain. Held together but falling apart with one thought. The butterflies represent peace and as they carry away the parts of the puzzle it shows the relief you feel once an anxiety attack comes to an end.
