Kalamaja Museum (Tallinn, Estonia)

From the very beginning, this community museum was created with the people living in the surrounding area – the local community. The process of creating the museum with the people of Kalamaja was unique in Estonia. The idea for the museum was sparked by a survey of local people in spring 2018, followed by brainstorming sessions and meetings. Dozens of past and present Kalamaja residents have taken part in the creation of the permanent exhibition by donating objects and sharing their memories and photographs of life in the Kalamaja district.

Museum Laboratory 2021 - Tallinn Russian Museum (Estonia) / MeM (Finland, Sweden, Latvia, Estonia)

Experimental project at the Tallinn City Museum branch that involved visitors in the process of selecting and evaluating historical, social and anthropological information for permanent exhibition through the interactive exhibition space and events called "Kitchen Talks". Lots of inspiration and support while preparing and running the laboratory came from Creative Europe project "Agents of Changes: Mediating Minorities"

Narva Venice Embassy, run by NART (Narva, Estonia)

Narva Art Residency (NART) is a cultural platform founded in 2015. It facilitates residencies, art exhibitions, talks and educational workshops. It is located in Narva city on the Estonian-Russian border on the historical Kreenholm site.

In the summer of 2022, the Narva Art Residency started the “NARVA VENICE EMBASSY” project. In 2025 it is already in its fourth season! In July and August, Narva Venice will host events where artists and local residents can get to know each other and learn about different art projects. The main aim is to create cultural hub in cooperation with local community and international artists to make this district more open to new ideas and opportunities for new developments.

Exhibition "OUR TARTU", Tartu City Museum (Tartu, Estonia)

“Our Tartu” is an exhibition about Tartu residents and Tartu districts. The exhibition introduces visitors to the kaleidoscopic nature of a lovely city through 17 chapters and conveys the feeling that makes each district, but also Tartu as a whole, special. Each district has its own theme in the exhibition and local people talk about their hometown. It is not usual that there are so many different districts in one small city. Moreover, Tartu districts are not official, which is why Tartu districts can be considered, above all, carriers of community identity.

This is the website for University Center for the Museums. We have "White nights" it means museums are open to all the citizens. Students play in bands along the streets. Museums host conferences or debates regarding university research or climate change, many topics... Students are volunteering in our projects for special publics, inclusive activities or teaching foreing languages
