Jose Maria Sison's poem "The Guerilla Is Like A Poet" examines the experiences of a guerrilla fighter in the Philippines during the martial law era. Using the historical method of criticism, the poem paints an illustrative picture of the guerilla fighter's struggles, from the government's violence and brutality to the harsh life conditions of the jungle. The poem conveys an understanding of the guerrilla fighter's courage and heroism in the face of massive hardship through imagery and language. The poem also persuades the reader to consider the injustice of a government that treats its citizens in such a cruel manner.

This poem written by Jose Maria Sison "The Guerrilla Is Like a Poet," praises the Filipino people's revolutionary battle for national liberation and democracy against foreign and feudal tyranny and exploitation through natural imagery and lyricism.

The historical approach evident in the poem is that it exhibits the people's culture in the Filipino national democratic movement, along with the issue of the struggle for national and social freedom, as well as exile gained because of the invaders. Essentially, it depicts the Filipinos' hope and struggles to gain their freedom from foreign enslavers during that certain historical period. The poem itself is a tribute to the importance of the human element — the "humanity" — in fighting a people's war. Objectively, war, even for a worthy cause, can be demoralizing. As a result, the typical portrayal of the guerilla is that of a toughened individual who has become accustomed to his harsh environment.

This poem wherein Sison wrote in the year 2013 highlights our people's revolutionary battle for socialism and independence against abuse. A historical critique method seen in this poem is that it is based on true historical events that happened to our country wherein foreign countries claimed the possession of our country. It highlights their struggles in order to be free of the cruelty and brutality that they experienced at the hands of the invading forces. Guerrilla warfare is a type of irregular warfare in which small groups of rebel fighters use military tactics to attack conventional armed services. This poem helps readers comprehend what occurred in our country's history and what people who battled went through before having our liberty.

In the poem, the author, José Maria Sison, compares a guerilla to a poet. Historical criticism is present here because the poem "The Guerilla Is a Poet" is about the history of the Philippines, and how Filipinos fought for their rights and freedom. It describes all of the problems and difficulties that Filipino soldiers had while fighting for our country against the invaders. It also discusses the Filipino people's revolutionary battle for national independence and democracy. It discusses the difficulties they have experienced during each conflict against another country that wishes to annex the Philippines. We may also compare this to the suffering of Filipinos at the hands of their own government's violence and inhumanity.

"The Guerrilla Is Like a Poet" is a poem by renowned Nicaraguan poet and revolutionary leader, Ernesto Cardenal. The poem, first published in 1957, draws a parallel between the role of a guerrilla fighter and that of a poet. The poem is both an expression of Cardenal's revolutionary ideology and a reflection of his poetic sensibility.

From a historical perspective, "The Guerrilla Is Like a Poet" can be seen as a product of the revolutionary fervor that swept through Latin America in the mid-twentieth century. Cardenal was a prominent figure in the Sandinista movement that overthrew the Nicaraguan government in 1979, and the poem can be seen as an early expression of his political beliefs. The poem celebrates the guerrilla fighter as a hero who stands up to oppression and fights for freedom, just as the poet uses words to challenge the status quo and question authority.

However, the poem can also be read as a critique of the romanticized view of revolution that was prevalent in the Latin American left at the time. While Cardenal celebrates the bravery and determination of the guerrilla fighter, he also acknowledges the personal toll that the fight for revolution can take. The poem speaks of the guerrilla's "loneliness" and "long nights," suggesting that the struggle for freedom is not a romantic adventure, but a grueling and often isolating experience.

From a reader-response perspective, "The Guerrilla Is Like a Poet" can be seen as a powerful and evocative expression of Cardenal's poetic vision. The poem is full of striking imagery and metaphors that invite the reader to see the world in a new way. The comparison between the guerrilla and the poet is a particularly potent one, suggesting that both are engaged in a struggle to reshape the world and create a new reality.

At the same time, the poem can also be read as a call to action, urging the reader to take up the cause of revolution and fight for a better world. The final stanza, with its invocation of "the final triumph," suggests that the struggle for freedom is ongoing, and that the reader has a role to play in bringing it to fruition.

In conclusion, "The Guerrilla Is Like a Poet" is a complex and multifaceted poem that can be read from a variety of perspectives. Whether viewed as a historical artifact, a critique of revolutionary ideology, or a powerful work of poetic expression, the poem remains a compelling and thought-provoking work that continues to resonate with readers today.

He was the founder of the Communist Party of the Philippines' Central Committee (CPP). It is a Marxist-Leninist-Mao Zedong-inspired organization established on his experiences as a leader, laborer, and activist. He was designated as a "person supporting terrorism" by the United States and the European Union.

Prof. Sison's prophetic poem compares the guerilla fighter leading "the people's war" to the poet writing on the same subject, both of whom are creatively bringing to life "the people's epic" of revolution. The poem contains historical criticism of revolution in the Philippine context, and life during the revolution is similarly described, but figuratively. The poem itself is evidence of the "humanity"—the human component—in fighting a people's war. War may be dehumanizing, even when it has a worthy reason, objectively speaking. Because of this, the basic definition of the guerrilla is that of a guy who has become numb to his harsh surroundings and is unable of feeling emotions or appreciating the better things in life, like art and poetry. The poem by Prof. Sison varies from and refutes this representation.

Jose Maria Sison's "The Guerilla is a Poet" is a thought-provoking poem that sheds light on the role of guerrilla fighters in the larger context of society. The poem's opening lines immediately drew me in and left me curious to see where the poem would take me. Sison paints a vivid picture of the guerrilla fighter as a brave and noble figure who is willing to fight for what they believe in, even in the face of overwhelming odds. However, the poem is not without its flaws, such as Sison's romanticization of the figure, portraying them as almost superhuman in their bravery and determination. "The Guerilla is a Poet" is a powerful and thought-provoking poem about the importance of bravery and determination in the face of oppression. It raises important questions about the relationship between art and politics, and the role of poetry in shaping public discourse.

The historic events conveyed in the poem ought to be analyzed through historical criticism, as it gives a factual and detailed interpretation of Filipinos' experiences during their revolutionary battle by utilizing literary devices, namely; metaphor and imagery. It expresses Filipinos’ feelings of hope, patriotism, and determination for freedom from their struggles during the revolution. The guerilla– an independent group of fighters feuding against greater forces being compared to a poet presents their similarities in serving social evolution and appreciation to humanity, especially during the Philippine’s Revolutionary period.

"The Guerilla Is Like a Poet" is a poem written by Jose Maria Sison under his pseudonym or nom de guerre ("war name"), Amado Guerrero. In this poem, Sison compares the guerilla to a poet: the poet is a guerilla but with a mighty pen, and a guerilla is an artist who speaks eloquently of the people's struggle in the language he knows best. But they are both united in their struggle for liberation. The historical criticism that is seen in this poem is that it is based on the struggles that Filipinos experienced back then just to gain freedom. This poem also tells us that even if people have the same purpose, they will still have different ways of achieving it.

Through his writing and use of imagery, he expresses the revolutionary battle of the Filipinos for democracy against oppression and injustice. This poem can apply to the occurrences during Martial law wherein Marcos declared claiming it was the last defense against the rising disorder caused by the alleged threats of communists. Sison negates the portrayal of the guerillas as hardened people who only want to spread violence. The poem made us realize the historical events in our country and the struggles of those who fought for radical societal changes for us to be able to have our rights.

Jose Maria Sison is the founder of the Communist Party of the Philippines, a revolutionary organization that handles the New People’s Army. In 2013, he published a poem entitled “The Guerilla Is A Poet” which somehow depicts life and the war fought by the guerillas. It compared the life of a poet to that of guerillas, demonstrating how being a guerilla is similar to being a poet in that both of them are observant of their surroundings and have an objective to achieve. With this, it also mirrors the life of Joma Sison who was both a guerrilla and a poet.

The ideology of the poem is focused on the movement for a change. It is inspired by the revolutionary movement of the Filipinos, just like what Sison experienced himself, during the “dark times”. In November 1977, Sison was arrested and abused during the Marcos administration in which he was held for nine years. He was said to be captured in the mountains which also corresponds to the poem’s setting. His own experiences most likely led him to being a poet and creating the poem itself.

José Maria Sison wrote the poem "The Guerrilla is Like a Poet" under the pen name or nom de guerre "war name" Amado Guerrero. He was the founder of the Communist Party of the Philippines' Central Committee (CPP). José Maria Sison is a poet who supported communist beliefs. Sison compares a guerrilla to a poet in this poem. That is, a guerrilla is no less than a poet, and his actions might be as noble or as grave as those of a poet.

The author Jose Maria Sison is trying to prove that communism should also be encouraged in our country - the Philippines. During the American colonization, Filipinos helped one another in achieving independence. The author uses different types of figure of speech like simile and metaphor, as indicated by the title "A Guerilla is a Poet," the author compares guerrilla to a poet in this poem. The various visual aspects emphasize what guerillas experience while they are in the forest, such as poetry and being one with nature. The guerillas, like Filipinos, fight for what is right and for what they stand for in this poem. In today's generation, we must fight and stand up for what we believe is right.
