Een duitse staande is een allround jachthond.
De Duitse Staande Korthaar vind zijn oorsprong in de landen rondom het Middellandse zee gebied. Daar werd deze hond ingezet bij de jacht op veerwild en in de valkenjacht. Via Frankrijk, Spanje en Vlaanderen kwam deze voorstaande jachthond terecht bij de Duitse Vorstenhoven. In Duitsland is in 1897 de aanzet gegeven om te komen tot een rasstandaard. Vandaar ook de naam Duitse Staande. De belangrijkste jachteigenschap is het voorstaan van het wild. Tegenwoordig wordt de Duitse Staande Korthaar wereldwijd ingezet als allround jachthond, maar is ook voor vele niet jagende mensen een actieve prettige sociale huishond.

Het ras heeft een redelijk lange zachte vacht en lange oren. Het ras stamt uit de twintigste eeuw maar heeft zijn wortels in een ouder ras, de kingcharlesspaniël, die vooral door de snuit verschilt.

De rottweiler is een vrij grote, stevig gebouwde en sterke hond. Hun lichaam is wat gedrongen en goed gespierd. De kop is breed met een middellange, brede snuit. De oren hangen, ze zijn driehoekig van vorm en staan hoog op de kop ingeplant waardoor de kop nog breder lijkt.

Ook aandoeningen van de wervelkolom en de knieën worden nogal eens gezien. Het ras heeft dan ook vaak al op jonge leeftijd moeite met beweging en inspanning. Pijnstillende behandelingen en hersteloperaties hiervoor zijn kostbaar. Men dient zich te realiseren dat alle kosten van voer, medicijnen, operaties en verzorging bij grote honden veel hoger liggen dan bij kleinere rassen.
