How to complete the Challenge

1. Read the instructions for each challenge on the first post.

2. Complete the challenge.

3. Submit your challenge to us in a comment under the instruction post for each challenge!

   NOTE: Before commenting be sure you have changed your username to your first and last name, so we know who is submitting!

You will get 1 raffle entry for each challenge you complete (so you can get up to 3!)

Materials Needed:

• 2 Ice cubes

• 2 small bowls (to hold ice cubes)

• Insulating materials (things that will keep the ice cold)

  • Think of things like foam, paper, cotton balls, foil, paper towels, or other insulating items you have around the house!

How to Complete the Challenge:

1. Use your insulating materials to build a shelter around one of your bowls and leave the other outside of the shelter. Make sure the bowl fits inside of your shelter!

2. Place one ice cube in the bowl inside the shelter, and another ice cube in the bowl outside of the shelter but nearby.

3. Set a timer to 30 minutes.

4. After 30 minutes, observe your two ice cubes. Answer the questions below in your STEM journals.

   1. Which ice cube melted more?

   2. How do you know?

   3. Do you think your shelter worked? Why?

      Bonus: What do you think happens to ice when it melts and turns into water?

5. Take a photo of your experiment! Be sure to include both of the bowls in the photo!

• (Optional) Any props or costumes you think will add to your dance.

How to Complete the Challenge:

1. Watch the videos linked in the next post to learn more about how things behave differently depending on if they are in a solid state, liquid state, or gas state.

2. Create a movement that represents each of the three states. You should have at least 3 movements (one for solid, one for liquid, and one for gas).

3. Put your movements together and find a song that goes with it! (Songs must be clean and appropriate for a classroom setting)

How to Complete the Challenge: Share your shelter OR your dance!

1. Choose which challenge you want to share with a friend or family member

2. Do the following

   1. For the Shelter: Explain your ice shelter experiment set and your results to a friend or family member

   2. For the Dance: Teach your friend or family your dance moves.

How to Submit Your Challenge: Upload a video of your friend or family member either 1) explaining your ice shelter experiment (think of this like vlog online) OR 2) doing your dance in the comments below!
