<title>TeamIn a small business, the sales operations team may consist of a small core of permanent members who draw on expertise and support from colleagues in other departments, such as human resources, marketing, information technology and finance. International Data Corporation suggests that the core team should represent some 10 to 15 percent of all sales staff.PerformanceThe sales operations team monitors the performance of representatives against their financial and business objectives. It sets and monitors metrics, such as total sales, numbers of new accounts, sales by product line or territory, and individual sales. Team members may also review sales compensation schemes to encourage improvement in areas such as new business development, higher levels of repeat business or sales to new market sectors.MarketingBy working more closely with marketing, the sales operations team can provide valuable support for sales representatives. It can keep sales representatives informed of upcoming advertising and marketing campaigns that will generate interest and awareness in the marketplace. The marketing team can gain a better understanding of the type of prospects the sales force needs when it develops lead-generation campaigns. Marketing can also create email campaigns that the sales force can use to nurture prospects and convert them to customers.TechnologyThe sales operations team works with information technology specialists to identify and deploy tools to help the sales force improve performance and productivity. It might recommend smartphones that representatives can use to access customer information before a call or upload new orders for faster processing. Software programs, such as customer relationship-management systems, bring together customer information into a central database, making it easier for representatives and sales managers to identify sales opportunities, improve customer contact and track sales performance.</title>
