I was definitely prepared to like Alan once we met….and I immediately saw the rapport between them.  Alan fully accepted me as someone important to Rachelle and, therefore, important to him as well.   And I did share many hours with Rachelle during that courtship when she shared things as her feelings deepened.

I was, regrettably, not able to be at the wedding when it took place (my remembrance is that I was in Europe at the time, because certainly a lesser distance wouldn’t have prevented me being that for that very special union).

My memories may not be 100% accurate about details, but they are strong regarding the fond exuberance Alan always showed when I was in his presence.  That usually happened when I visited them at Dovestring….a wonderful setting for the life they wove together.  He always made me feel so very welcome.  I remember a couple of lovely Thanksgivings spent at Dovestring, one of them being when my visiting twin sister also joined me there….that is a special memory for her as well.  

 And I will never forget their wonderful friend Gene, who also became someone special to me, and some of the occasions we all shared together (And I am quite sure Alan would have some kind of joking comment to make to me about one evening in particular that we all shared…..shhh!) 

Loving, kind, generous with praise, full of love for Rachelle, his children, and the mountain lifestyle they led.  I wish I had more photos (and possibly I do have a few in the 8 full boxes of photos upstairs), and if/when I come across any I will be sharing with Rachelle.

Rest in peace Dear Alan.  You do live on in the hearts of many!

You are in my prayers today and each day.  I hope that you will be able to see Alan and Jesus and me in Heaven someday.  Eternity is much too long to spend anywhere else.
