This act promoted foreign language learning in elementary schools, high schools, and universities nationwide. This event was mostly promoted as new technology and science was emerging that change perceptions due to globalization and the need to exchange ideas in other languages. This event was important as it was a first step towards the permission that allowed public schools to teach students in a different language.

In the United States, the 1968 Bilingual Education Act was the first time a nationwide law required bilingual education programs for students did not have English as a first language. This act allowed funding of programs that were otherwise not in place. The civil rights movement spearheaded the reform that endorsed bilingual education. This event was an very important first milestone and the foundation towards later imporovements that were made based on his Act.

The pass of Proposition 58 in California was a win for those who fought against those who wanted to dismantle of bilingual education. This is an era where there is increase of people with nationalist and xenophobic views that wanted to keep children with English as a second language from being taught in their native tongue. I believe this was an important ruling as it shows how people can get together to fight racist views and policies created out of social-political movements. It is a great example on how people can come together to advocate for future improvements that will be needed as time pass and perceptions change within the community.

This Act allowed for the full recognition of increasing student's bilingual proficiency. It also funded dual language programs for both English-speakers and Students with other home languages. I believe this was an important event as it help to reform positively bilingual education and provided more improved services to students.

This Act authorized federal funding for new programs focusing on preventing the loss of tribal heritage and culture. Under this program, Native communities could establish immersion programs to revitalize Native languages and improve Native economies. I though this Act to be very important as it focused on the linguistic and cultural needs of the indigenous people in the states. This ethnic group has special needs that needed to be addressed separately over and above what the other educational acts could provide. It is in our best interest and hope that the native people of the Americas receive the special attention and recognition they deserve to promote their cultural and linguistic identity as original owners of this land.
