         <title>Abraham Lincoln </title>

This proclamation led to the passing of the Thirteenth Amendment that ended slavery. Abraham Lincoln also established the US National Banking System. Lincoln is also remembered for being the first president to be assassinated while in office (<a href="https://www.biography.com/us-president/abraham-lincoln"><em>biography</em></a>).</div>]]></description>

Grant was entrusted by Abraham Lincoln to command all of the U.S. armies in 1864. Prior to this, Grant was a war hero during the Mexican-American War. He went on to become the eighteenth president of the United States. As president, he worked to implement reconstruction after the war (<a href="https://www.biography.com/us-president/ulysses-s-grant"><em>biography</em></a>).</div>]]></description>

Barton is remembered for risking her life to bring supplies to aid soldiers in battle. Since she did not attend nursing school, she provided self-taught care. Her work inspired other women to contribute to the war by becoming nurses (<a href="https://www.redcross.org/about-us/who-we-are/history/clara-barton.html"><em>red cross</em></a>).</div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>The Jim Crow Laws were laws that advocated racial segregation and racism in the United States.These laws often resulted in violence or hateful acts against African Americans. They were enforced between the 1850s and 1877. Some effects of the laws included segregated schools and segregated railroads.These laws served the purpose to return the Southern states to a class structure that was similar to the period before the Civil war in regards to mistreating African Americans (<a href="https://www.history.com/topics/early-20th-century-us/jim-crow-laws"><em>history</em></a>).</div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>The Ku Klux Klan, or the KKK, is an American white supremacy society that was founded on December 24, 1865 in Pulaski Tennessee. The group wanted to show resistance to the Republican Party's Reconstruction-era policies after the Civil War. The group targeted immigrants, Catholics, Jews and blacks with hateful acts of violence. The members burned crosses and staged rallies and parades to show their opposition to these groups of people. The KKK is the oldest and bloodiest terrorist organization in American history (<a href="https://www.history.com/topics/reconstruction/ku-klux-klan"><em>history</em></a>).</div>]]></description>

The Battle took place in Virginia in 1862 over the course of 3 days. The battle resulted in a confederate victory on August 30, 1862. The battle was the first major battle of the Civil War. It showed the union that they needed to fight harder in order to win the war (<a href="https://www.history.com/topics/american-civil-war/second-battle-of-bull-run"><em>history</em></a>).</div>]]></description>
