1. My takeaway is that teachers need to apply scaffolding to their lessons. We must consider the learners needs and be aware that there are students who are diverse learners. So we need to give differentiated instructions with care and concern for the students with us. We must help students with diverse needs to accomplish small and big things, use guided notes through teacher prompting. Try chunking as well, it will help with teaching of students

I like the idea of using blending in the classroom - approach which combines online educational materials and opportunities for interaction with traditional place-based classroom methods. This method will help to increase learner engagement. However, a lot of planning is required and the teacher has to take note of each learner's profile. If this is done successfully, this method can be used to teach inquiry-based EL/Science topics in the classroom

Although without differentiated learning, children are able learn, but probably more tediously. During pre-assessment, we should not allow them to use their notes or help each other, to assess their learning individually.

I really like the idea of flexible grouping where different groupings were doing
different tasks. The teacher advocated a policy of being 'honest, open and self-aware' to facilitate this as she was aware that this will only work if the students were co-operative in this aspect. I like how the foundation task group were. referred to as revisiting their tasks as they needed some parts to be addressed while the learners who had no issue could engaged by doing differentiated tasks in the form of self-directed learning. All learners would seem to benefit from this arrangement.

This way, the teacher could plan & execute scaffolded activities/ worksheets to accommodate the different learners’ needs in a whole class setting.

Blended learning is a combination of digital content activity and face-to-face content and activity. Applications that allow teachers to upload teaching videos can help pupils with self-directed learning due to its round-the-clock and ease of accessibility from homes. However, I feel that we need to be mindful of pupils without such access from home. Even if we still have to fall back on pen and paper teaching practices for them (i.e. notes and handouts), we must ensure that they are still able to achieve the learning objectives. It is important to bear in mind that the face-to-face experience is still important in carrying out direct instructions, questioning for understanding and inquiry-based learning.

Furthermore, they also feel more confident voicing their opinions when placed in group settings. These group settings should be well thought through by teachers as they need to strike a balance between students' preference and purposeful grouping.

Diversity in teaching through differentiated instructions helps to cater to different students’ learning needs and abilities. This helps in the students’ understanding which helped in their academics as the students would now have relational understanding and be able to translate what they have learnt in their work. Hence, this also builds students’ confidence as they feel that they understand the content better and is able to do better. Greater confidence would be able to promote joy of learning

Scaffolding is critical to students’ success. It is essential and helps support the students as they develop the skills that they need to be self-regulated and independent learners. It helps the pupils master the materials piece by piece. Most of our classrooms will be of pupils from diverse backgrounds and prior knowledge. The support that teachers provide should be differentiated according to the pupils’ needs. Educators have to know and understand their pupils’ prior knowledge and build on it. Have to keep in mind that sometimes there are gaps in students’ learning not because they do not understand or are slow but it could be that they were just not exposed to that topic earlier. And sometimes pupils just need that extra bit of help learning a new skill. So providing the scaffolding these kind of pupils need will help them to be on par with the rest. But we also have to remember to remove the scaffolding once the learning or mastery is done. Different types of scaffolding can be used. Differentiated worksheets according to the pupils’ abilities, learning centres, teacher guidance, even peer guidance. ICT can also be utilized in scaffolding for the pupils. I like the idea put forth that pupils must always be challenged by something that is slightly above their capability, thus respecting the pupils. There is not much point if they are always given something that is easy. There will not be much sense of accomplishment.

In the video, the teacher gave the students the autonomy to choose which group they want to go to depending on their own perceived readiness on a given topic. Differentiated worksheets and scaffold can then be given based on their perceived ability level.
