1. Inequality among the States

The 1st and 2nd state exploited the commoners, by implementing outrageous taxes in order to support their luxurious lifestyles.
As a result, people lived in hunger and poverty, increasing their hatred and desires to abolish the monarchy.

2. No Political or Social Rights
During 1789, the States-General were called into a meeting to solve the economic crisis, but the 3rd state was no power nor voice at the assembly.
Subsequently, the 3rd state, being majority, established the National-Assembly, to represent the commoners rights. This resulted, in a separation of States and later on it served as an incentive, as the Assembly proclaimed themselves as the legitimate government, for the revolution.

3. Power Loss
The monarchy's popularity began to decrease exponentially, due to the negligence of Louis XVI and the rumors and hatred towards Marie Antoinette. People were highly discontent with their reign and lavish lives while, the country was in crisis.
This, fomented the new found rejection towards monarchy and their legitimate authority. People began revolting, questioning their power and no longer obeyed their commands.

4. New Ideas
Enlightenment thinkers and ideologies heavily influenced people's motives for the revolution. French Literacy rose and a new focus was set on social mobility and education. Middle class people rose to power from merchants and educated people, who carried great influence.
As a result, people started to change their ideas and wanted more than what the government gave them. They wanted to upgrade their "class" and be able to seek knowledge and education. This was an important motive for revolution.

References:
1.Rana, V. (0AD).
