The Garden

When I think of the month of May, I always think of springtime with flowers, sunglasses, sandals, watering cans, butterflies, and so much more. And of course, I think of a garden. Before seventh grade, my vision of a garden was loads of flowers and grass. There would be a little bench to sit on with stone steps leading up to a gazebo. Now that I helped with the grade's community garden and become a Windermere Prep Seventh Grade Seedfolk, I know what a garden is. It's a place where you not only grow flowers but fruits and vegetables, too. I planted these enormous tomatoes called Beefsteak Tomatoes. They are like the queen bee of the tomatoes. They are sweeter, juicier and meatier. They are delicious! I wanted to grow them because my grandma and I have a favorite recipe to make together - her infamous Chicken Cacciatore. It is a perfect blend of tender chicken, meatball chunks, Italian AND Puerto Rican seasoning and the warm tomato sauce. Hopefully, by the time the Seedfolks' festival rolls around, they will be ripe and ready for picking. They have grown a lot since I last planted them and I am so happy that I now know how to plant them! They mean a lot to my heritage and everything so when they are done, I'm going to show them off to the whole world. Not only have I been noticing the growth of my plants but the growth of others. There are cherry tomatoes, eggplants, cantaloupe, corn, marigolds, strawberries, morning glories and more that have been growing at an insane rate. They not only look beautiful but healthy and delicious! I'm so proud of how healthy and vibrant our garden is looking right now and I have loved every part of the experience.

There are a few reasons why I believe Tower Gardens can decrease climate change. It takes up less space and can hold more plants than a large plot of land can. Not only is is easier to take care of when you use a tower garden, but it uses less resources.
