Hi everyone,

I wanted to share a quick note about the recent draft of the Master Schedule matrix, which currently places Adapted Physical Education (APE) during 1st and 2nd periods. Unfortunately, this timing does not work for the LAS1 program and creates a number of challenges for our students.

Our students arrive at different times on buses in the morning and need to begin their day with breakfast and structured time in our classroom. They also require end-of-day support from our program due to transportation and supervision needs.

We have politely requested that APE be scheduled during 5th and 6th periods—right after lunch. This schedule:

Allows us to complete our weekly Community-Based Instruction (CBI) trips in the mornings without students missing APE.

Maintains a structured and predictable routine for our students.

Supports safe and smooth transitions at both the start and end of the day.

How are we adhering to best practices within the SAI model amongst the lower grade level teachers? Why are we redesigning our current system that will put teachers at a disadvantage with so many preps, while maintaining our caseloads?

Currently, we have two days with six meeting times (periods) for those two days to hold IEP meetings. It isn't easy to find an open slot for our meetings.

What will be the IEP time slots for next year?

We have 4 periods per day, excluding the anchor day. Does that mean we will have four time slots per day? If not, how will the times be staggered throughout the day?

That could be a problem if it carries over onto our cotaught or SDC class. We will need more time slots and days for next year.

It will also cause a strain on admin who have to attend the meetings.

Thoughts?
