Idea for Connecting

We used this idea to get to know our clients. We brought in cookbooks that were meaningful to us (i.e. my grandmother's in her original writing, one of my mother's favorites, etc..), discussed how the recipes were important, but the relationships we built through cooking together were most important. We all shared what our "cookie name" would be just for fun - their responses were so creative! We let them know we wanted to approach coaching as if we are creating "recipes" together, with them adding in their special ingredients. It was a great way to connect with our clients and share a little about ourselves and our coaching beliefs since these are all new relationships. The menu was created to give them some choices for how we could start our work together. PL Batch = group PL; Specialty Cookies = Specific for Individuals; Recipes for Success = How we can Work on the Topics. It was fun.... and we treated them with Crumble Cookies!

In the initial LRG meetings with the school literacy leads we share the supports we offer. We make recommendations based on their data - we start with last year's 3rd grade GMAS scores. For the schools that are using Georgia Learns (Cox Campus) we recommend the Bridge to Practice. This is where we provide follow up professional learning once modules are completed. Once we provide the PD we follow up with walkthroughs and feedback.

The Metro LRG Team will share the Lit Love Read initiative with partner districts through our MRESA Newsletter, emails, and Virtual Job Alike sessions. We will kick off the initiative on World Read Aloud Day (Feb. 5th) by conducting read-alouds at various schools. Throughout February, we will continue read-alouds with teachers, coaches, and students to spread the joy of reading. Courtney Jones has created a Read Aloud Challenge Calendar with daily read-aloud ideas to involve all districts. We encourage our partners to share their read-alouds by posting photos, videos, and quotes using the #LitLoveREAD and #LitLoveREADMetro hashtags.

To help build relationships, we always like to leave a little something for the teachers we observe. This is a quick, easy, and cheap way to make a little popcorn treat. The link should prompt you to create your own copy so you can edit the 1st slide to fit your needs. Take a screenshot of the 1st slide and use the 2nd slide to paste the image up to 6 times. Print, cut, and tape to an individual bag of microwave popcorn to make each treat. *Grocery stores put popcorn on the BOGO sale all the time...I was able to get 24 bags for $6!

Blind Date with a Book

We selected books from the More Ramped Up Read-Alouds resource to give out to our LRG Coaches. We decided it would be fun to do this in a Blind Date with a Book format. We only provided blurbs that described the themes of the books. We then had all teachers that selected each book work together to practice read-aloud and begin to craft lesson plans. The beauty of this is that they were cross-grade level teams (K-5).
