Concepts Addressed:
Gender

Comments:
Kiernan talked about how she was working on students grades on their most recent test. One thing she noticed was that boys were getting higher scores and understanding the math much better. The girls seem to struggle in the class. Also when the students get new seats all the girls were on one side of the room and the boys were altogether.
Natalie talked about how the teacher was teaching the students equality and how to be kind.

Concepts Addressed:
Fixed-Mindset and zone of proximal development

Comments:
Anna noticed in her 4th grade classroom when working with the students who are learning about decimals and fractions. She was finding that the students were saying that they aren't getting it the material. They were also saying that they couldn't understand. Anna didn't know if this was to hard cause it was not in the zone of proximal development. She also thinks cause the MCA's are coming up she thinks it could be too hard. The students were saying they did not get it or it was to hard for the students to process.

Concepts Addressed:
Behavior

Comments:
Amanda noticed that she caught a students saying F*** You and A$$hole. The student was talking to the lady at the playground and was saying that all the students were saying the swear words. The teacher later talked to the students to inform the policy.

Kiernan noticed that today none of the students who a normally in the detention. The teacher told her that the students behavior has improved. Last week the students were still in detention. They have gotten better. The teacher does respond to the little side comments made to the classroom.

Concepts Addressed:
Classroom Organization

Comments:
Natalie noticed that there is great importance to how a classroom is set up. From how it is physically to how it set up structurally. The teacher has a great set up with most of the students sitting on exercise balls or fidget seats on the chair. This gives an excellent way for the kids that are needing to move all the time a chance to get their energy out. It is also good to have the desks in a semi-circle. This is a great way to have the classroom set up because you can have the kids sitting at their desks, work space in the middle, or even a place to give a lesson.

Concepts Addressed:
Grades

Comments:
We all noticed that teachers look for different things when grading.
Amanda really noticed that her teacher looks for improvement, while Kiernan noticed there is room for corrections, but looking more at doing as much as they can.
Anna noticed that her teacher is very focused on right and wrong when assessing the problem. She found that her teacher marks the grading and the students are to notice what they did right or wrong.
Natalie found that her teacher seems to focus on a combination of improvement and right and wrong. There is a lot of opportunity to practice before testing and evaluation of how that student is understanding the material.

This past week we have noticed different topics address than from the last week in the classroom. We found that Gender, Fixed-Mindset, zone of proximal development, behavior, classroom organization, and grades have come up in the classroom and are a part of the more detailed but important side of teaching. Noticing this and getting good advice from our higher up teachers give us good and practical practice on these difficult topics that will continue to come up.
