This is evident when the group agrees that they, "ought to have a chief to decide things". This is a perfect example due to how Ralph puts order and society into the group of young men. As a result this exemplifies man making society.

To the day one was born and to the moment they die, society controls the actions during the lifetime of man. This concept applies to especially Jack out of all the boys on the island, as Jack let's all of his "...laughter become a bloodthirsty snarling" and he lets himself be free from the control of the conch, beginning "...to dance" to his own will, presenting a very savage image. The conch is the society, and order. At first under the acceptance of the conch, Jack cooperated easily with Ralph and Piggy. Now that Jack had decided to abandon the conch, it no longer leads his actions to a reasonable sense, Jack drives away from this path and goes towards the "Id" aspect of his mind, while the conch would prefer his mind to go to the "ego". Which is primarily why Ralph is attached to the conch, Ralph represents the ego out of the three leaders.

Since they are stranded on an island away from society Jack feels the need to say "we've got to have rules and obey them". This an example of how society will change man in the way they live, think and behave. Just like jack, society has made it's impact on how he lives under rules that society has come up with.

This proves man makes society because they decided to have a leader to be in charge of a small civilization, so this proves man makes society because man is taking care of society in this book. In conclusion man does make society in the book Lord of the Flies.

Piggy is a more civilized character in the book who believes law and rescue is more important. Law refers to order that Piggy wants to instill on the island along with rescue being the main goal. Jack is the more savage and barbaric character that breaks away from the main goal of rescue and focuses on hunting and autonomy. The island symbolizing society is what is changing the "man" which refers to the children.

The author implies that Jack has become savage, giving us explicit gory imagery of Jack dancing and laughing maniacally. In a conclusion, without the constructs society places for mankind, Jack would not have had begun to dance and develop a maniacal "bloodthirsty snaring".

Society makes the man because in "Lord of the Flies" piggy notices the boys were acting crazy because there is no order on the island. He frustratedly asks, " what are we? Humans? or animals? or savages?" This is a rhetorical question. The boys are not under the order of society's rules.

People always ask “does man make society” or “does society make the man” based on Jack’s statement, “I ought to be chief, “said Jack with simple arrogance, “because I’m chapter chorister and head boy. I can sing C-sharp,” society makes the man. When Jack says that that he is chapter chorister and head boy he is just stating facts about himself which is logos. He thinks just because he plays a part in society he should be named chief. Society is clearly making him turn into an arrogant person.

This is logos because it claims the life of Jack in his "old" society when he was a "chapter chorister and head boy" which now in this new society on land makes him want to be chief.

The passage we got demonstrates pathos. This is because piggy is giving a choice to the boys, continue having fun or take getting rescued seriously. The are two feeling that are being displayed here, the feeling of fun that Jack offers of "hunting and breaking things up" or the feeling of safety that Ralph offers with "law and rescue". This can be read into even deeper and thought about in terms of our essential question, does man make society or does society make the man. The "law and rescue" represent man making society because they would go against their created society of "hunting and breaking things up". The "hunting and breaking things up" is society making the man because they have established their society around hunting.

society makes man. The boys live a life where they have no structure , morals or any type of laws. They have no laws for them to follow and they live a life by whatever rules they like and the rules that their "leader" gives no one follows and this would relate to piggys question when he asks "which is better - to have rules and agree, or hunt and kill?" Basically if they had rules theyd have morals and mindset thats different towards their actions .

Society makes man. The reason for this is because Piggy's fustration towards the boys made him ask" What are we? Humans? Or animals? or savages" which implies that the boys are acting out of order because they are not under the pressure of a modern societies rules which states that it is society making man.
