Nevertheless, New York has been the 5-borough city we know today only since 1895, when the 5 boroughs Queens, Bronx, Staten Island, Brooklyn and Manhattan all together became Greater New York.

The tower is located in the North west corner of the site.
The costruction of the skyscraper began on 26.April 2006 and ended on 30 june 2013.
It is 1776 feet high and this number represents the year of the US declaration of independence.
 
Not far away from the Freedom tower you can find the National Memorial and Museum of 11 September which displays a huge collection of images and artefacts relating to the attacks of 11/09.

The World Trade Centre was a complex of 7 buildings and it was located in the southern part of the Island of Manhattan.
It is famous because it housed the Twin Towers before the
terrorist attack of 11 September 2001.
 
Currently,the site has been rebuilt with five new skyscrapes and a meorial for the victims of the attacks.
The original one world trade centre (north tower) and Two world trade centre(the south tower) were the tallest buildings in the world

The Memorial’s prime spot is symbolized by the Reflecting Pools, built where the Twin Towers rose.  The names of the victims of the 1993 and 2001 attacks have been inscribed on the bronze panels that surround the two pools . All around has been placed 400 oak trees, which makes the Memorial one of the greenest squares in the whole world. Inside the oak forest, there is also a grassy glade called Memorial Glade. 
Another important element of the Memorial is the Survivor Tree, a pear tree located where once stood the Ground Zero, that survived the attack and became a symbol of the connection between past and present. 
Inside the Memorial’s area, people can also visit the 9/11 Museum, a national museum that aims to remember the victims of the attacks.

Located on the EastSide of Manhattan, it was built between 1928 and 1930 from the  project of architect William Van Alen and was commissioned by the founder of the famous automobile company Chrysler, in order to create a distinctive landmark in the New York skyline that could represent the greatness and power of his commercial empire.
With its impressive 319 meters and 77 floors, this building is highly recognisable from the other skyscrapers thanks to its massive height but mostly for its Art Deco architecture.
Its most representative features are the huge steel spire that crowns the highest part of the building, followed by the three-arched spans that resemble the shape of vintage cars’ radiators.
Another interesting feature belongs to the 30th floor, where bricks in two different colors are used to create the image of a wheel, as well as the iconic eagle heads made of stainless steel.
The highlight of the interiors is the wonderful lobby, which ceiling was entirely painted by Edward Rumball and represents the means of transport of the 20th century.

Located in Midtown quarter , in the Manatthan district , at the corner of the Fifth Avenue and  West 34h Street , the Empire State Building was built between 1930 and 1931. The construction was realized by Italian, Ireland and Mohawk  workers and it was so state of art  that was visited by a lot of  university students and industry specialists of  the period. For  42 years,from the 1931 to 1973, thanks his 102 floors it was the highest sckycraper  of the city and the world. Today, it’ s one of the most visited monument in the  USA, thanks to the several shops,  restaurants , museum and his unique observatory , which allows the tourists to enjoy an unforgettable experience , admiring the breathtaking view of  the Big Apple. Moreover, since the 2000 it was considered one  of the 7 modern wonders.

Among the places to visit there are: 
  • the Radio City Music Hall, a theater that can seat up to 6000 people;
  • the GE Building, a 20-meter skyscraper that houses several offices;
  • the Lower Rockefeller Plaza, the main place of the complex;
  • Rainbow Room – Bar SixtyFive, a restaurant that boasts one of the best New York view terraces.
 Two famous stores in this complex are the Lego Store and the Nintendo Store, suitable for both children and adults.

It has been the world’s first suspension steel bridge and the only connection between Manhattan and Brooklyn for a long time, crossing the East River. Today it is a very important symbol of NY, but the history of its construction is marked by terrible events: the death of 28 people, including the architect, and also an accident to his son, Washington Roebling, who took his place. Not so long after the opening, some people died because of a woman spreading panic screaming that the bridge was falling.
Nowadays it features 8 lanes, the 2 central elevated ones reserved to pedestrians and cyclists, who can access from Tillary Street or from the Dumbo Neighbourhood at Brooklyn and from Central street at Manhattan, for a 45-minute walk/ 20 minute bike ride, enjoying amazing views.

It was inaugurated in 1886 and it was made by the French sculptor Frederic Auguste Bartholdi  and Gustave Eiffel. The statue is made of copper, while the inner is made of steel. Originally It was gilded. The monument is dedicated to the ideal of liberty, portrayed as a goddess which holds in her right hand a torch, and an inscribed table with the date of the declaration of independence carved on the cover in the left. Later the statue gained the further symbolic meaning of hospitality, especially for the immigrants who arrived here hoping for a better future. In 1986 the statue obtained the label of world heritage.  The granite basement houses the museum of the history of the statue and the old replaced torch . Tourists can also go to the summit of the statue thanks to a spiral staircase, to enjoy a stunning view over New York.

The Moma in New York is one of the most important museums in the world dedicated to modern and contemporary art, it was founded in 1929 with the aim of becoming an educational institution for a public of all ages. 
Moma is an innovative structure divided into different departments dedicated to: architecture and design, cinema, theatre, painting and sculpture, photography, prints and books.
Art lovers can not miss these displays because  they boast works of the most important artists in the world such us: Vincent Van Gogh , Monet ,  Andy Warhol , Matisse and Pablo Picasso. 
The Abby Aldrich Rockefeller Sculpture Garden has been built outside the museum and nowadays is one of the most distinctive elements of the Moma. The garden features  wonderful seasonal plants, artificial water lakes, and it houses important installations of pieces of modern sculpture.

Designed by the architect Frank Lloyd Wright, the museum has always been an architectural icon thanks to its spectacular and innovative spiral shape, that is also one of the reasons which led the UNESCO to declare it World Heritage Site.The entire building is lightened by an impressive glass ceiling and its inside is dominated by a distinctive spiral ramp, on which visitors are supposed to walk down from the top to the bottom admiring the wonderful paintings and artifacts displayed along the walls. The Guggenheim Museum was originally called the Museum of Non-Objective Painting as it was built to exhibit collections of modern art, from impressionism to contemporary art. Nowadays visitors can also admire the collections held in the new rectangular eight-storey tower, which was added to the museum in 1992.

It was inaugurated in 1873 and nowadays has become a beloved meeting point for newyorkes and a must-see for tourists. In its 340 acres they can find gardens, artificial lakes, falls and the Central Park Zoo. This park can be visited on foot, renting a bike or rowing through the lakes. The most famous zones are: Sheep Meadow, an enormous open air green space; Shakespeare Garden, where you can find all the flowers quoted in the authors books; the Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis Reservoir, a lake surrounded by a 1.5 miles path dedicated to the ex first lady. This park is the perfect place for those who love sports: there are baseball, basketball and golf pitches; also Ice skating rinks and a luna park are assembled according to the seasons. In 2009 it opened as a park which provides 1.45 miles of green space raised above Manhattan’s street level, with eleven access points, including five which provide wheelchair access. 
High Line Park has quickly become one of the most visited attractions and it attracts 5 million visitors annually ( more than the Statue of Liberty) and it is also loved by New Yorkers for the quiet stroll, to do  some sporting activities,  to read a good book, to attend a summer show or to admire some artist.
The walk along the path of the High Line is very pleasant and it is possible to enter through one of the entrances and to enjoy the breathtaking view of Manhattan.

It has 44 underground platforms and its shops, restaurants, cafè and landmarks are also an important meeting-place for New Yorkers. The most iconic attraction is the Main Concourse, a large waiting room with a wonderful painted ceiling that represents the zodiac. Here you can also see the symbol of the station, the Information Booth Clock that is a large opal clock with 4 faces. If you are hungry you can buy something in the Grand Central Market, an european market with many products, or in The Campbell Bar, where you can taste a cocktail in a refined room with a jazz atmosphere. Otherwise the ground floor hosts the Dining Concourse with some fast-food to satisfy every taste.

It extends from West 42nd Street to West 47th Street with dozens of LED screens and billboards as well as many particular characters. The strangest character you can meet is the “naked cowboy”, a world famous naked guitarrist who amuses people dressed only in briefs, hat and cowboy boots. Apart from that, you can meet numerous disney characters to take photos with. Here is also one of the most famous museums in New York, the Madame Tussauds which houses several wax figures, from Hollywood stars to politicians and superheroes, such as Spiderman, Hulk and many others. Times Square is also home to many themed restaurants, the most unique is the “Ellen’s Stardust Diner”, a typical American diner where the staff sing and dance while taking orders. It is so famous that you can queue for up to 2 hours to eat.

In the area, tourists can also visit Time Square, that is colorful and crowded by day and night.
