As a first grader 

Running around with my cousins

From my first catch

I knew you and I were meant to be

From family and friends

To teammates and supporters

I learned teamwork and discipline 

This was all thanks to you 

You gave me a chance 

To grow as an athlete

And express my love for the game

You gave me a mentor and helped me build friendships

Even from a young age

I knew we were meant to be

Because even when things got hard

I never gave up on you

I find confidence through you 

In every play I make

You motivate me to be competitive 

To give my all and lead my team to victory

 

I will never forget 

How it felt to run down the field 

With you in my hands

And nervousness in my heart

That first touchdown,

I was nervous to even have the ball,

Everybody on the other team chasing after you, 

The crowd cheering

I knew I was very fast 

It was just the stomach feeling that I got 

It made me get tired faster 

My first touchdown pass,

It was in the first or second game 

I hiked the ball 

And just let it fly to my open teammate 

It got easier when I got more confident in my throw

The passion of football has helped me a lot

On and off the field

Especially in school 

Because my mom always told me 

“If you do good in school you don't participate”

And if I want to go to practice and games 

I have to do good in school
