October Sky is about a young boy (Homer) that dreams about becoming a rocket launcher. 

- He doens't want to follow his father's footsteps. The father isn't happy about this. 

- "Spotnick" --> name of the rocket he saw for the first time, that inspired him to build one.

- Homer and his 3 friends built their first rocket in the house, but they had an accident and his father busts him, he tells that if they wanted to build another rocket, they should have done it outside the house.

- The four friends participate in a science fair. 

- The second rocket was built in the forest, and an adult went there to see if it could fly. 5. People in general find it interesting, however majority of adults believe it to be a sort of front for a militarised-spaceprogram. Homer and his friends, find it fascinating and are eager to build their own, small size, rocket.
6. A high-ranking rocket scientist in NASA, that Homer frequently writes letters too, detailing his and his friends' progress with their own rocket.
7. For Homer and Quentin, rockets are a fascination. For the two remaining guys, it's simply fitting in.
8. They work in Homer's parents' basement. Their rocket is badly build and blows up upon ignition - and destroy the white picket fence.

10. There's vast improvements, however the bottom of the rocket is still badly welded, making it divert course and almost hitting an onlooker.
11. Homer doesn't want to work in his mine, like his father and his father before him. His father is also the foreman of the mine.
12.  To build a rocket for a science faire, so they can receive a scholarship.
13. They get leftover metal sheets from the mine. Copper from decommissioned railroad tracks (illegally). And wood from a warehouse (illegally)
14. They've set up a launchsite, with a 'control-room'.
