Time Periods: 1974 - Present day
Motives of the Conflict: In 1947, Kashmir was partitioned from the European government. This led to territorial conflict between India and Pakistan. Since most of the population was muslim and the ruler was hindu, this created a dispute. Although, this started with just India and Pakistan, China then came in and claimed some territory in the 1950s. Now,  Pakistan claims namely Azad Kashmir and the northern areas of Gilgit and Baltistan based on its majority Muslim population, whereas China claims the Shaksam Valley and Aksai Chin. India claims Jammu, the Kashmir Valley, Ladakh and the Siachen Glacier.

Current State of the Conflict: Still high tension.
