We have smaller class sizes, are able to differentiate instruction, allow students to choose Project Roles. Students will need to advocate for themselves. We do support all students at McCool.

This year McCool Academy accepted 200 6th Grade students and around 100 7th grade students. Each transfer is a case by case basis, based on the criteria set and mentioned on our webpage. We offer afternoon workshops for students who struggle with classroom learning. We current have in class supports, and have a small team available to assist students. We chunk our projects and encourage collaboration.

The pandemic has created some obstacles for learning of course, but we are heading the fight for COVID safety on our campus. We as a campus wear our masks 100% of the day, and clean and sanitize regularly, and follow all LISD safety protocols. As far as learning is concerned, if a student should have to stay home, we offer virtual learning for those students until they are able to return. Yes, you are correct. This year mcCool is actually only 6th and 7th grades, but current 7th graders will become 8th graders next year, and we will welcome a new 6th grade class. :) Very exciting to add a new grade level next year!

Project learning schedule looks very similar to a regular classroom schedule with the exception of the availability of STEAM classes. Students rotate to classes on a 8 period schedule, with a 30 minute lunch, and a McCool Family Time Collaboration Period each Tuesday. We do offer a double block Humanities course which is learning ELAR through the Social Studies TEKS. McCool Academy is a magnet School so therefore we are not in a feeder pattern.
