This article speaks on the death of many Iran protesters, and their laws against free speech. I believe it would be better if it talked more about why the protesters were protesting because they make it seem like they are just giving their lives away. It shows a disconnect between iran and it's government, and shows the brutal truth about Iran's lack of freedom of speech.

This story talks about Iran and Saudi Arabia working towards restoring ties. It comes from the perspective of Iranian foreign minister. In order to understand the full story we would need perspective from Saudi Arabia. Overall, a positive story which could be a good reconnection for Iran.

This is a story is about an Iranian American, Siamak Namazi who got arrested in Iran in 2015. At the time of this article, he was on a 7 day hunger strike in order to reach the attention of Joe Biden, because he wanted to come back home. It's hard to know Biden's reaction because he hasn't responded although it has reached him. -*

This quote is about the main character, Darius's best friend's father. His father was on his way to work during a protest against the Iran government and they mistook him for a protester and sent him straight to jail. This is exactly what my first hashtag is about. The Iran protesters are being thrown in jail and sometimes even being sentenced to death. Sohrab's father ends up being killed by the state in prison near the end of the story so it lines up with the story.

These 2 examples from the 1980s are about Iran's hatred for the U.S. and Soviet Union for their support of Iraq. Right away I notice the intent of the "god like hand" and "god like leader" to make iran seem like a god like power. While in the book Darius the Great is Not Okay, Iran may not want to kill people from the U.S. or Soviet Union like portrayed in this, but the hate is definitely still there in bits and pieces. Like when Darius is stopped by Iran customs for no reason other than the fact he was American. Propoganda like this was used to spread hatred of the United States amongst Iran's people.

This is Iran government graffiti which was made to look like it was made by a civilian, when in reality it was made by the government. It correlates to the emphasis of government support in Iran in the book. Iran has an extremely strict government, which is portrayed in the book. The main character's best friend Sohrab speaks out on this a lot. Talking about how it's just better to go along with things the government says.

Darius the Great is Not Okay tells the story of an Iranian American boy traveling to Iran to meet his grandparents and family. It shares about Darius's experience meeting his family, as well as experiencing the Iran culture for the first time. It also covers the political side of Iran, like the arrest of the main character's best friend's father during a Iran government protest. The book provides the perspective of Iran's daily living like Iran's best foods and food traditions, strange Iran traditions, Iran government laws, etc. The book could add a view of the Iran government to provide more view of what is really happening, especially with the killing of Sohrab's father. Reading this book made me understand how cruel and strict Iran law is. For example you could be killed for not wearing a headdress if you're a woman. It was very hard to learn about all these cruelties, especially at the end. But I really enjoyed hearing about the culture of Iran such as partying, eating, and family traditions. So even if the Iran government is cruel, the people still maintain happiness with their amazing culture.
