         <title>What I’ve Seen in Schools</title>

         <description><![CDATA[<p>At SECTA, students must demonstrate a certain level of English proficiency before they can even apply. This reflects a limited view of language as a right because it sets up a gatekeeping system where only students who already have strong English skills are given access to the school’s opportunities.</p><p><br/></p><p>In contrast, I’ve been at schools where students enter with little or no English, but they are still welcomed and provided with support like ESL programs and translators (in drastic cases). That reflects a stronger embrace of language as a right because it acknowledges that all students deserve access to education, regardless of their language background.</p><p><br/></p><p>Reflecting on this, I see that policies like SECTA’s can limit access and reinforce inequality. A stronger “right” orientation would ensure that multilingual learners have equal opportunity to attend and succeed, even if they are still developing English proficiency.</p>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<p>This image highlights the idea of language as a right by showing that people have the ability to communicate in many languages. Just as the man speaks and the flags represent different nations, every student has the right to use and maintain their language. Education should honor that right rather than restrict access based on English proficiency.</p>]]></description>

         <title>My Future Classroom Vision</title>

         <description><![CDATA[<p>I personally align most with the “language as a resource” orientation. I believe students’ languages carry culture, identity, and unique ways of thinking that enrich the classroom.</p><p><br/></p><p><strong>Opportunities</strong>: I can design lessons that include multilingual texts, encourage peer translation, and build respect for cultural diversity.</p><p><br/></p><p><strong>Challenges</strong>: Some schools may lack bilingual materials or may prioritize English-only instruction. However, even in those settings, I can still frame language diversity as an asset by validating students’ home languages and creating spaces where their knowledge is valued.</p>]]></description>
