The study of weather is oftentimes associated with meteorology and climatology, which are both branches of earth science. Climatology evaluates how atmospheric changes impact Earth's climates. Meteorology hones in on the atmospheric effects on Earth's weather. Weather and climate are two different topics that are oftentimes confused, but we will be focusing on weather which is more closely correlated with meteorology. Earth science also includes the study of oceanography and geology. Earth science is defined as, "the study of the Earth's structure, properties, processes, and four and a half billion years of biotic evolution" (About Earth Sciences (EAR), n.d.).
