This is something that I feel most vets would not agree with but I found it really interesting. Most would say that there favorite part of the job would be seeing the animals and make them feel better but sometimes forget that there is always an owner attached to the pet. So in a way communication with people is very important in our line of work

The club does many different events like fundraising, Farrowing, cleaning up East Lansing Parks, and more. during the weekly general meetings, they have many different guest speakers come in and talk about their experiences with Vet school, and their career so far.

This was very helpful for me because it showed many different types of vets what their day-to-day life looks like and the typical cases they see in a week.

This helped me confirm what type of vet I could want to be in the future.

The website has several different resources for other methods of treating animals with various diseases. All the different articles provide information on each disease and is a really great resource for Veterinarians if they come across something in their work that they are not as familiar with.

She finds this important because as education may end learning never does and especially for an industry like Dairy there are always going to be things to learn about.

How to Prepare: she says to "Keep your options open, have an internship, and I really think that as long as you are willing to push yourself outside of the box and have a positive attitude about what you wanna do it doesn't matter if you have a degree in design or it doesn't matter if you have a degree in animal science. This advice is not only good for this major but it is also good for anybody in any line of work. It will prove in the long run that it is you are truly passionate about what you do.

Dr. Rachel Harshbarger | $practice

she also specializes in Acupuncture and asked about why she said "I'm a martial artist and so I thought that acupuncture and the traditional Chinese Medicine would be a fun way to bridge eastern ways with veterinary medicine" (Harshbarger 0:20-0:58)

"Mostly verbal and then, nonverbal, like body language, you know, advocate attention to my body language when I'm talking with clients, so I don't cross my arms and things like that. Verbal explanations, but I like a lot of written communication as well" (Harshbarger 1:00-1:37). When listening to her speak about how communication affects her body language and how she has to be extra focused on it, that made me think about how all doctors must hold themselves. You cannot be fidgeting because you can look unsure, and you cannot be slouching because that looks unprofessional, body language can tell people a lot of different things and it is important when communicating to clients that you are not showing the wrong message.

When I was thinking of my career the environment was something that I thought a lot about, including when I was applying to colleges. I wanted something that would have everything that I wanted. I wanted to be in a pre-vet program most importantly, a lot of the schools I applied for were SUNY schools, which for the most part do not have pre-vet or animal science as majors you can choose so those schools were ruled out sooner than others. Then the second most important thing to me was that I would still be able to skate in college, which ultimately led to me choosing MSU.

Research is something that is very important to use as a vet, there will always be things that you might not be confident in when you come across it in an animal, so it is important to double-check information frequently using those sources.
